It’s no secret that women’s bodies go through a multitude of changes over time, whether it’s due to age, pregnancy, or genetics. One area that many women struggle with is the changes in their breasts. These changes can lead to feelings of self-consciousness and dissatisfaction with their appearance. Many women find themselves struggling to find clothes that fit properly and flatter their changing bodies. It’s important for women to remember that these changes are natural and normal, and that their worth is not defined by the size or shape of their breasts. Embracing and accepting these changes can lead to a greater sense of self-confidence and body positivity.
This post covers what to do prior to breast augmentation and how to prepare for breast augmentation recovery.

Before And After Breast Augmentation A To B
Breast augmentation, otherwise known as breast implants, is one of Australia’s most popular cosmetic surgery procedures and is far more than simply increasing the size of one’s breast.
Each patient is unique, and many factors other than size are taken into consideration when deciding which type of breast augmentation will be most effective for you, including shape, chest and breast dimensions, skin quality, nipple position, position of the breast crease or fold, and the amount of breast tissue that is present to cover the implant.
Keep in mind that surgical outcomes might vary from patient to patient, and risks must be taken into account as with any invasive surgical operation.
All of our surgeries featured on our “breast implants before and after” gallery have been performed by Dr. Georgina Konrat. Dr. Georgina Konrat has dedicated her career to ensuring all patients are ‘people’ first and that the specific needs in relation to the context of patient’s lives are taken into account for every surgery. At Brisbane Cosmetic Clinic it is our philosophy to ensure that the most up-to-date information and the latest techniques are provided so that patients can make an informed choice on all procedures while ensuring complete privacy and confidentiality.

What To Do Prior To Breast Augmentation
In preparing for breast augmentation, you may be asked to:
- Get a blood test
- Take certain medications or adjust your current medications
- Stop smoking
- Avoid taking aspirin and certain anti-inflammatory drugs as they can increase bleeding
- Stop taking recreational drugs, such as cocaine
A hospital or a recognized outpatient or ambulatory surgical center should be used for breast augmentation surgery. For your protection, please. Your surgeon could not be a board-certified plastic surgeon if they operate in a more casual atmosphere.
Plan for someone to drive you to and from surgery and to stay with you for at least the first night after surgery if your breast augmentation is done as an outpatient procedure.
How To Prepare For Breast Augmentation Recovery
1. Ask for Help
You won’t be able to stand or walk without support since you might feel faint or dizzy. To ensure a smooth recovery from your breast augmentation treatment, ask a reliable adult friend or family member to stay with you for at least the first 24 hours. You might also think about employing a skilled nurse to help you with your rehabilitation. Keep in mind that this person will assist you in a variety of ways, some of which may be quite private.
2. Straws that Bend
Purchase yourself a box of straws that can bend. Using these straws can make drinking fluids easier after your breast augmentation procedure.
3. Create a Post-Op Recovery Station
Place everything you think you may need to use frequently on a table next to your bed. Some items you should consider including at your post-op recovery station include:
- Bottled water
- Straws that can bend
- Snacks
- Baby wipes –use these to freshen up before you are released to shower or bathe
- Lip balm
- Tissue
- Cell phone/Home phone
- Cell phone charger – if applicable
- Television remote control – make sure you change the batteries
A small trash can should also be nearby, just in case, as anesthesia and drugs can occasionally trigger nausea. Also carry this the day of your breast augmentation surgery because you might feel queasy on the way home.
4. After Your Breast Augmentation Procedure, Serenity is Essential
Studies indicate that individuals heal better when they recover in a serene environment. For example, a study conducted by Roger Ulrich, PhD, who was the professor of Health Facilities Design at Texas’ A&M University from 1988 to 2011, finds that surgical patients who had access to a serene healing garden experienced fewer minor post-op complications, shorter hospital stays and needed less pain medication. For these reasons, stressful situations must be avoided during your recovery period after your breast augmentation.

5. Create a Menu of and Purchase Easy to Cook Foods
Chances are that you will not feel up to spending time in the kitchen directly following your breast augmentation. If you enjoy cooking, make a few of your favorite foods ahead of time and then freeze them in single portions. You should also purchase foods that are easy to prepare.
These foods may include:
- Lean lunchmeat
- Wheat bread
- Wheat Crackers
- Flavored gelatin
- Healthy snacks
6. Find Clothes that are Easy to Take On and Off
Find the items in your closet that you can put on and take off with ease after having breast augmentation surgery. Keep in mind that you need to wear clothing that won’t make you raise your hands above your head. No nightgowns or t-shirts are permitted. The shirts/blouses you select must all have front buttons or zippers, and they must also be cozy enough to wear to bed.
7. Avoid Constipation During Your Breast Augmentation Recovery
The use of pain medications and your lack of movement following your breast augmentation procedure can easily lead to constipation. You can combat this by consuming foods that are known to help alleviate or prevent constipation.
These foods include:
- Water
- White grape juice
- Canned peaches
- Prune juice
Avoid eating low-fiber, binding foods like white bread, rice, bananas, toast and applesauce.
On the Day of Your Breast Augmentation Surgery
1. On the day of your breast augmentation procedure, remember to bring a driver with you.
2. You need to wear comfortable, easy to remove clothing that does not require you to reach above your head.
3. Follow any other instructions you are given for the day of your breast augmentation procedure.
4. A recovery pack that contains important items, these items may include:
- A water bottle
- Dry snacks
- Your driver’s license or ID
- A credit card
- Cash
Preparing now means that your breast augmentation recovery time will be as comfortable as possible. This preparation will decrease your anxiety and add to the serenity in your home. This, as studies show, only facilitates the recovery process.
