Best home laser hair removal for black skin back

Hair removal is a procedure that can be complicated by the skin color of the person who needs it. However, there are many options available for people of color, and there are a few things you should know if you’re considering home laser hair removal for black skin.

Laser hair removal for black skin has been a long-sought-after dream for many women. Laser hair removal can be an effective way to keep unwanted hair from growing back, but it’s not always the most comfortable or affordable option.

If you’re looking for a laser hair removal for black skin that will help you get the results you want without breaking the bank, there are several options you should consider. Here are some of our favorites!

Best home laser hair removal for black skin back

Laser hair removal has long been a popular treatment for people who want to get rid of unwanted body hair. But when it comes to laser hair removal for black skin, there are some important considerations that you should make before getting started.

If you’re a darker-skinned person who wants to get laser treatment for your hair removal needs, here’s what you need to know about laser hair removal for black skin.

  1. Laser Hair Removal Can Discolor Your Skin

Laser hair removal can sometimes lead to discoloration of the skin. This is especially true if you have darker skin or if you’re trying to remove black hair from areas where the skin is lighter than the hair (like underarms). If this happens, it’s usually only temporary and will fade away after a few weeks.

  1. Your Skin Might Get Sunburned During Treatment

Your dermatologist should try to avoid treating your chest or face with lasers because these areas are more susceptible to sunburns than other parts of your body—and that can lead to hyperpigmentation and scarring if not treated properly after treatment! Talk with your doctor about how they plan on going about treating these areas so that they don’t cause any damage or side effects later on down

It’s no secret that laser hair removal is a popular cosmetic treatment. But what if you have darker skin? Is laser hair removal for black skin safe and effective? What kind of laser should be used for black skin? How much does it cost? We’ve got answers to all these questions and more!

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

Laser hair removal works by targeting the pigment in your hair follicles—the melanin. The laser emits short pulses of light that are absorbed by the melanin, which heats up and destroys the cells in your hair follicle. This can cause irritation at first, but over time, your body’s natural healing process will kick in, causing the follicle to die out as well as its ability to produce new hair growth.

What Kind of Laser Works Best on Black Skin?

Most lasers work equally well on all skin colors, but some research suggests that certain lasers may be more effective than others when treating black skin. In general, lasers with longer wavelengths tend to work better on darker skin than those with shorter wavelengths (although this isn’t always true). If you’re looking for a

When it comes to hair removal, you want something that is going to be effective and will last. Laser hair removal is one of the most popular methods of hair removal today. It works by using a laser to disable the follicles that produce hair. This means that the more often you get this treatment, the longer it will last. But what about for black skin? Does laser hair removal work for black skin?

Laser hair removal does work for black skin, but there are some things you need to know before getting started. It’s always best to consult with a professional before starting any type of cosmetic procedure, especially one with such an involved process as laser hair removal. They can help you figure out what type of laser treatment is right for your skin tone and type, how many treatments you’ll need, and even give you tips on how to keep your skin healthy while undergoing these treatments (which can sometimes be harsh).

As a black woman, I know that shaving can be a pain.

There are so many issues with shaving: from ingrown hairs to razor burn to the fact that you have to shave every two days or less.

And then there’s the hair removal process itself: even if you’re in your own bathroom, you’re probably still having to deal with someone else’s outdated ideas about what women should look like. Plus, it’s expensive! You might save money on razors by going for the cheap ones, but then again, maybe not. Either way, there’s no getting around paying for them at some point in your life.

So it’s no wonder that laser hair removal is such a popular option—it gets rid of hair permanently and costs less than waxing or threading, while also being less painful than electrolysis (if we’re being honest). But what about black skin? Can laser hair removal work on dark skin tones? Or do people with dark skin need something else?

We decided to find out by reaching out to some of our favorite dermatologists and asking them all about laser hair removal for black skin.

There are a lot of things to consider when you’re picking out your method—the pain factor, how long it will take, and whether or not it’s safe for your skin.

But that’s not all! If you’re a person of color (specifically black), there are also some special considerations to make when choosing the best hair removal method for you. Here’s everything you need to know about laser hair removal for black skin:

Your skin type is just as important as the hair to consider when you’re looking at home laser hair removal. If you have dark skin, there are a few different things you should keep in mind as you make your decision about which laser to use.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?
how does IPL for dark skin work
Laser hair removal home devices use lasers to target melanin (the pigment that gives hair and skin its color) inside the hair follicles and destroys them.

The problem is:

The darker your skin, the more melanin it contains.

This means that the thermal energy produced by the lasers can target the same melanin in your skin – and burn it.

So:

How can the laser “know” to target only the melanin in your hair follicles – and not your skin?

Here’s how:

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is image-10670-1024x538.png

In 2022, hair removal technology has advanced to the point where the best home devices can adjust the parameters (wavelength) so that the laser only hits the melanin inside your body hair (which is usually darker in the hair follicle) – without damaging the surrounding skin tissue.

The 5 home devices you’ll find below can detect your skin tone (1-6 on the Fitzpatrick skin types I to VI – light to black) automatically – and adjust the wavelength to bypass the melanin in your skin, yet still target the melanin in the hair below it.

The Fitzpatrick Scale

Type I: Light, pale white skin that always burns in the sun and never tans
Type II: White, fair skin that usually burns in the sun and tans with difficulty
Type III: Medium white to olive skin that sometimes burns mildly in the sun and gradually tans
Type IV: Olive, mid-brown skin that rarely burns in the sun and tans with ease to a moderate brown
Type V: Brown, dark brown skin that very rarely burns in the sun and tans very easily
Type VI: Very dark brown to African American skin that hardly burns in the sun

Iluminage Touch – view at SkinStore.com
The FDA-cleared Iluminage Touch uses FDA-cleared technology for permanent results on all skin tones – I to VI on the Fitzpatrick scale, and can be used on the face and bikini area as well.

It has a CE certification to meet EU standards as well.

This device uses Elōs energy, which is a combined Radio Frequency (RF) and Intense Pulsed Light that’s safe and effective for all Fitzpatrick skin types I to VI – light to black.

The Iluminage Touch has a compact base unit with a corded hand-held applicator and is extremely easy to use.

It has an easy glide design, lightweight wand, and simple controls.

👉 Lamp lifetime – 120,000 to 300,000 (depending on the model) gives around 2.5 – 5 years of use. It comes with excellent value replacement flash cartridges.

👉 Treatment time – For dark skin use low-intensity levels. A full leg will take about 10 minutes, but slower if used in the higher intensity levels.

The recommended treatment plan is once a week for at least 7 weeks – then occasional treatments to keep the results. This device allows you to continually move the device along your skin, without pausing for each flash (unlike other devices).

👉 Replacement Parts – the initial quartz cartridge that you will first receive with the device will last for about 120,000 flashes, which is plenty.

In the future, you can buy another cartridge, as well as cartridges for epilating shaving or a precision head for treating hard-to-reach areas with IPL.

The Iluminage Touch is mains-powered, which means you don’t have to wait for the battery to charge before you start your home laser hair removal. It also means it has a consistent output throughout your treatment, giving you the best result.

Can be used on: Any area, including the face and Brazilian (but not over dark freckles and moles!)
    Flashes lifetime – 10+ years
    Warranty – 1-year
The Kenzzi is one of the best laser hair removal home devices for dark skin, because it has 5 different power settings to suit your dark skin tone or sensitive skin, while still delivering results at all levels.

The low-energy IPL settings, wavelength filters, and special configuration of the flashes make it gentle and suitable for darker skin.

kenzzi IPL laser hair removal results
If your skin color is Clay 2-3 – only use up to Intensity level 3 – and start by testing it at Intensity level 1.

Results are noticeable within 3-4 weeks, and if for some reason it doesn’t work for you, Kenzzi offers a 90-day money-back guarantee.

The Kenzzi laser hair removal is safe, gentle, and easy to use, and the price is not higher than average.

  1. Silk’n Infinity Painless
silkn infinity home laser hair removal for black skin
Silk’n Infinity laser hair removal – view at Silk’n
Can be used on: the body and face
    Warranty: 1 year + 30-day return policy
Lamp lifetime: 500,000 (no cartridge replacement will be necessary)
The Silk n’ Infinity laser hair removal device is a rare find for people with dark-brown skin.

Why?

Because this IPL hair removal device combines Galvanic energy, which is a small electric current that makes your pores dilate so the IPL reaches deeper into the follicle.

It can, therefore, use very gentle (and effective) IPL – safe for dark skin (and all skin types). (See this study)

skin tone chart for laser hair removal
Plus:

The Silk’n Infinity (FDA cleared and clinically tested) comes with a built-in skin sensor and fits all skin tones (white to black), the price is affordable, it is compact, lightweight, and fast.

Attention – only the lower levels are safe for darker tones. Therefore, to keep dark skin safe, it has a sensor that scans your skin.

It activates only the safe intensity levels, that’s 1 and 2 only, for dark skin. Therefore, you can’t accidentally use a high level which can hurt and even burn.

On darker skin, you need more sessions than advertised to get and stay smooth.

Using the lowest intensity levels you’ll need up to 12 treatments spaced at 2-week intervals. Then, less frequent top-ups keep you smooth.

It comes with 500,000 flashes (enough for 15 years of full body treatments, which you won’t need…) and a nice storage case. No extra cartridges are needed.

👉 Treatment Plan: 4 treatments at 2-week intervals and then continuous use monthly until you get the full results.

On darker skin (using the lower intensity) it’s likely to take a bit more time to get to smooth hairless skin (we suggest around 12 sessions).

Elos technology combines Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and Radio Frequency (RF) energies – two complementary energies, that together provide selective thermolysis to a variety of biological targets. The use of both forms of energy provides enhanced selectivity through double targeting, more safety (by using less optical energy), and enhanced efficacy (by using high overall energy).

Laser Hair Removal FAQ
How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?
Laser hair removal works by targeting hair follicles with concentrated beams of light. Hair follicles are small holes in the skin from which hair grows. They absorb the laser, which is attracted to the hair’s melanin pigment, and this delays or inhibits future hair growth.

Does IPL for Dark Skin Remove Hair Permanently?
Laser hair removal doesn’t get rid of hair forever, but it does significantly reduce hair growth and makes the hair weaker, lighter, and finer with more and more treatments. Laser hair removal works by heating hair follicles to stop new hairs from growing, which puts the follicles in a state of dormancy for a long time – much longer than shaving or waxing.

When the hair does grow back (sometimes after 6 months or more) – it becomes lighter, finer, and fewer.

How Do You Prepare Your Hair for Laser Hair Removal?
Most experts agree that shaving your hair immediately before a laser hair removal session gives the fastest and best results. You can also epilate, wax, or pluck with some devices, but it’s best to follow each devices’ instructions and guidelines.

To your health and happiness,

Meital

Since one of the reasons home hair removal machines cannot be used on the genital areas due to the genital area usually being darker skin, is there any reason why any of these three machines not safe for genitals?

This makes sense Jack, but I do know that the manufacturers recommend against using any home device on these areas. Plus, it’s not just the skin tone, it’s the skin’s general sensitivity in these areas that play a part in this concern.
