Best home laser hair removal for blonde hair in india

No matter what your hair color, laser hair removal can be an effective way to get rid of unwanted body hair. It’s especially useful for people whose skin has a lot of pigment and can’t be treated with other methods like waxing or shaving. But, if you have blonde hair, there are some things that you should know before getting laser treatments.

The most important thing to consider is that laser hair removal works best on darker colors—and that means it works best on darker skin tones. If you have dark brown or black hair, your results will be great! If you have light brown or blonde hair, however…

The color of your skin also plays a role in how well laser treatment works. If you have very fair skin—like pale-white—it may be difficult for the laser to penetrate deep enough into the dermis (the second layer of skin) where hairs grow from follicles. This means that some hairs may not be affected by treatment and will still grow back after treatment ends!

If this sounds like something that might happen to you then we recommend waiting until after summer when sun exposure will help darken up these areas so they’ll be

Best home laser hair removal for blonde hair in india

Laser hair removal is a great way to get rid of unwanted body hair. It can be done on any part of the body, but it’s particularly useful for people who want to remove hair from their face. Laser hair removal works by targeting and destroying the follicle in which new hair grows. This means that even if you have dark skin, laser can still work for you!

There are many different kinds of lasers that are used for laser hair removal, but we’re going to focus on one type: diode lasers. Diode lasers are less expensive than other types of lasers, but they still offer plenty of benefits. Diodes are very effective at removing dark hairs, so if your skin tone is darker than average, this may be an option worth considering.

If you have blonde or white hair then diode laser could be an option for you too! If you want to find out more about how diode laser works and whether it’s right for your skin type or not then read on!

While there are many hair removal methods today, most of them are far from perfect. From ingrown hairs to razor burn, the pains of shaving and waxing have made many turn to laser hair removal, which promises a permanent reduction in hair growth.

Getting laser hair removal done professionally can be quite costly, but there are several at-home devices that are more affordable and still effective for zapping off hair. The thought of lasering your face or body may sound scary, so we talked to dermatologists to get the scoop on everything you need to know about at-home laser hair removal devices. When researching devices for this list, we looked for models with FDA clearance, proper safety features, and customer seals of approval.

Our Picks

Best Overall: SmoothSkin Pure Fit

SmoothSkin Pure Fit

What We Love: You can customize the energy, comfort level, and speed.
What We Don’t Love: There’s a bit of a learning curve with all the different settings.

SmoothSkin has been in the laser hair removal game for more than 30 years, so it’s no surprise its FDA-cleared Pure Fit device is one of the best all around. Not only does it go up to 10 energy settings, but it also has three different comfort modes (power, speed, and gentle) and two operating settings (stamp and glide) so you can customize the experience for different parts of your body. The precision head lets you tackle trickier areas like the bikini line, upper lip, and even the fingers and toes. It has a built in skin sensor that selects the right intensity for your skin tone as well as prevents accidental activation. The brand recommends using it once a week for 12 weeks, after which you can use it once every one to two months to maintain the results.

Type: IPL | Flashes: Unlimited | Warranty: 2 years

Best Splurge: Tria Hair Removal Laser 4X

Hair Removal for Women and Men Permanent Painless Laser

What We Love: It uses salon-style technology at FDA-cleared levels.
What We Don’t Love: The small laser makes covering large areas tedious.

Board-certified dermatologist Dr. Joshua Zeichner recommends this Tria Hair Removal Laser because “it uses diode technology, which is the same that is used in the office. The energy, however, is lower so it can safely be used at home.” The FDA-cleared device has a smaller laser cap that targets hair follicles more precisely and uses less intense light emissions as it goes up to five levels, so it won’t bother your eyes. It also has a clever sensor that lights up green if you have the right skin tone to use the device safely; otherwise it won’t unlock when you put it over your skin. With a 60 day return policy, you can try it out risk-free.

Type: Laser | Flashes: Unlimited | Warranty: 1 year

Best for Body: Braun Silk Expert Pro3 Permanent Hair Removal System

Braun Silk Expert Pro 3 PL3111 IPL Permanent Hair Removal System

What We Love: You can easily switch from using this laser on small to large areas.
What We Don’t Love: It can burn darker skin tones.

The Braun Silk Expert System uses intense pulsed light (IPL) that has been clinically tested to be a safe and efficient at-home hair removal treatment. Not only does the FDA-cleared device work quickly (you can treat both legs in just nine minutes), but it also comes equipped with over 300,000 flashes, which equals out to an average of 16 years worth of treatments. The precision head lets you zap smaller areas like your bikini line or armpits with ease. For extra safety, the SensoAdapt™ sensor continuously reads your skin tone and adapts the intensity of the flashes. The kit also comes with a Venus razor to use to shave beforehand, so you have one less thing to worry about.

Type: IPL | Flashes: 300,000 | Warranty: N/A

Best for Coarse Hair: Silk’n Infinity

Hair Removal for Women and Men Permanent Painless Laser

What We Love: It uses special technology to better target coarse hair.
What We Don’t Love: The light sensor can be a little finicky.

If you are trying to remove coarse hair, this device uses galvanic energy to open your pores, allowing the light to treat thick, stubborn hairs right at their root even more effectively. With its quartz bulb, it reloads faster, allowing for more pulses in a shorter amount of time. According to the brand, after eight treatments, you should see a 92 percent reduction in hair growth, and some shoppers say they saw amazing results in even less time. The FDA-cleared device has a built in skin sensor to prevent using unsafe levels, however, some customers say it won’t flash just because it didn’t get a good read of the skin. We also love how this device comes with an app that lets you keep track of your treatments and reminds you when it’s time for the next one.

Type: IPL | Flashes: Unlimited | Warranty: 1 year

Best for Dark Skin: Iluminage TOUCH Permanent Hair Reduction System

Iluminage TOUCH Permanent Hair Reduction System

What We Love: This device is FDA-cleared on all skin tones.
What We Don’t Love: You need to buy replacement cartridges once the flashes run out.

If you have darker skin, it can be hard to find an at home laser device that won’t burn your skin. But Iluminage uses elos technology, a combination of IPL and radio frequency, to safely treat a wider range of skin tones and hair colors. The device is FDA-cleared and tested on all skin tones. It has three power levels and is medium sized, so it can cover both large and small areas easily. In a clinical study, participants found that 46 percent of hair was removed after just two treatments, according to the brand. Do note that the device only comes with 120,000 flashes, and you need to purchase replacement cartridges if you want more.

Type: EOS | Flashes: 120,000 | Warranty: 1 year

Best for Face: Tria Precision Hair Removal Laser

Hair Removal Device

What We Love: It’s easy to use this laser over small areas on the face.
What We Don’t Love: The battery only holds a 15 minute charge.

If you’re trying to target smaller or hard-to-reach areas, opt for this Tria Beauty device. It uses the same diode laser technology as the previous pick from the brand, but it comes in a more compact and lightweight design so you can easily target hairs on trickier areas, like the upper lip, chin, or along the bikini line. There are five energy levels to choose from, and you should start to see results after about eight uses, according to the brand. Do keep in mind that the battery only holds a 15 minute charge, so it’s best for zapping small areas quickly.

Type: Laser | Flashes: Unlimited | Warranty: 1 year

Fastest Option: SmoothSkin Bare +

SmoothSkin Bare +

What We Love: You can laser your entire body in just 10 minutes.
What We Don’t Love: You need to use it more frequently than others.

While it’s nice that today’s devices come with so many settings and features, sometimes you want a simple design that you can use quickly. Consider SmoothSkin’s Bare +, the pared down version of our Best Overall pick. You still get the brand’s strong, FDA-cleared IPL technology and safety skin sensor in a compact design that delivers 100 flashes per minute, meaning you can treat your entire body in about 10 minutes. Rather than having different power and comfort levels, it just comes with two modes: stamp and glide. It does require a little more consistency than the Pure Fit (treatment every 2-4 weeks for maintenance), but if you don’t mind consistent but short sessions, this is the device for you.

Type: IPL | Flashes: Unlimited | Warranty: 2 years

Best for Bikini Line: BoSidin Permanent Hair Removal Device

BoSidin Permanent Hair Removal Device

What We Love: The head easily rotates to reach all areas of the bikini line.
What We Don’t Love: The buttons are so close together you may hit both by accident.

Anyone that has tried to shave their bikini line knows it’s no easy feat — it feels like you have to do gymnastics to reach all the nooks and crannies. With a head that rotates 180 degrees, this FDA-cleared device can get all the angles down there. The cooling setting is also great for treating sensitive areas and reducing any swelling or redness. The system uses the same optimal pulse technology which combines laser and IPL technology to achieve the perfect blend of energy level and wavelength. The sleek design feels good in the hands and looks as if you truly brought the salon to your home.

Type: OPT | Flashes: Unlimited | Warranty: None

Best Cordless: Sensica Pro Permanent Cordless Hair Removal Device

Sensica Pro Permanent Cordless Hair Removal Device

What We Love: It’s rechargeable and cordless, so you can use it anywhere.
What We Don’t Love: It doesn’t come with sunglasses for the bright flashes.

Most hair removal devices require to be plugged in during use, so it’s nice to have a cordless option that you can use anywhere, regardless of where the outlet is. This FDA-cleared device comes with six power levels and two heads for both larger and smaller areas. It uses IPL and a skin tone sensor to set the optimum energy level for your skin. Though it has unlimited flashes, it carries about 600 flashes between charges. It also has an automatic and manual mode.

Type: IPL | Flashes: Unlimited | Warranty: 1 year

What to Keep in Mind

Treatment Area

The first factor to consider is what area you are trying to laser. Some devices are specifically made for larger surface areas, like your legs and arms, while others are made for small or curved areas, like your face and/or bikini line. If you plan to use the device all over your body, look for one that has interchangeable heads of different sizes and different modes. Automatic mode, or continuous flashes, makes it easy to target big areas quickly while manual mode offers more precision when treating smaller areas.

IPL vs. Laser

Most at-home devices actually use IPL, or Intense Pulsed Light, rather than the lasers used at the salons. IPL tends to be weaker and less targeted than lasers. “Because at-home IPL utilizes both weaker and non-targeted energy, it is generally not as effective,” says Dr. Mark McKenna, Chief Medical Officer and Founder of OVME Aesthetics. “That being said, at-home IPL may be a suitable option for those with sensitive skin or sparse hair growth.” Some brands like Tria make devices with lasers so you can harness their power at home.

Safety Features and Credentials

When it comes to choosing a device, Dr. Zeichner suggests sticking to “trusted companies who have ideally published results of clinical evaluations of the devices themselves.” Board-certified dermatologist Dr. Debra Jaliman recommends selecting an option that has FDA clearance and good customer reviews. “Don’t look for a bargain or try to skimp on price because what you pay for is what you get. A more expensive device will give better results. You want one with enough power/energy and as close to an in-office laser hair removal machine as you can get,” says Dr. Jaliman.

Besides FDA clearance, you may want to look for at home devices with certain safety features. “Higher quality laser hair removal devices typically feature a skin tone sensor that unlocks the device for use when the skin tone in the treatment area is identified as a tone which is safely treatable,” says Dr. McKenna. “Skin contact sensors and pulse counters can also reduce user error to help keep treatments safe and consistent from one treatment to the next.”

It’s best to buy a device with different energy levels, so you can find the right intensity for your skin. Some devices also have a cooling feature that helps reduce pain and irritation.

Your Questions, Answered

How does laser hair removal work?

“Laser hair removal is a procedure in which a beam of light is used to destroy the root of the hair follicle to permanently prevent the hair from growing back,” says Dr. Zeichner. “The beam of light is selectively absorbed by the pigment cells within the hair follicle.”

While these treatments are much less painful than waxing, there can be some discomfort involved. “It feels like a snapping rubber band,” says Dr. Jaliman. “The more powerful the machine, the more discomfort you will feel. Some areas are more painful than others. However, it’s nothing you need painkillers for.” If you do feel irritation or pain, she suggests applying a cold pack to the area right after your treatment.

Is at-home laser hair removal safe?

“At-home laser hair removal devices are not as potent as in-office ones and you will not get the same results. [But] they are safe if used properly and instructions are followed,” says Dr. Jaliman. Like with any new skincare treatment, it’s recommended to patch-test a small area of skin and wait to see if any complications arise. “Don’t just start zapping your device when you take it out the box,” she adds. “This puts you at risk of injury or even burning yourself. Treat one area at a time and don’t over-treat the same area repeatedly!”

Keep in mind that laser hair removal doesn’t work the same for everyone. “In general, laser and IPL hair removal devices work best when there’s more contrast between the skin and the hair. The best candidates for energy-based hair removal are those with coarse or terminal dark brown or black hair and lighter skin tones,” says Dr. McKenna. “Blonde, gray, or red hair lacks enough melanin needed to attract the laser’s follicle destroying energy, as does hair which is ultra-fine (‘peach fuzz’). Similarly, dark skin with dark hair can lack the contrast needed to heat the hair and not the skin.”

Even though at home-devices tend to be weaker than salon models, Dr. McKenna says they can still cause irritation, hyperpigmentation, or even burns, especially in darker or deeply-pigmented skin. More brands are creating devices that can treat darker skin tones, though it’s always best to first double check with the specific device and start with the lowest power setting. You can also consult with a professional at a salon if you aren’t sure if lasers will work for your skin.

How do I use a laser?

Just like with other hair removal methods, you have to take certain steps before and after lasering to get the best results. “Do not wax or pluck the hair, as you need the root in place as a target for the laser,” says Dr. Zeichner. “Make sure that the skin is fully washed, removing any creams or cosmetics before using the laser.”

You need to shave all areas that will be lasered a day before treatment. You also want to avoid sun exposure, including using self tanners, two weeks prior to treatments as they can make your skin darker and burn. Acid-based cleansers, peel pads, and topical retinoids can also make your skin more sensitive and should be avoided in between treatments.

After treatment, your skin might be a little irritated and red, so it’s best to avoid tight clothes, hot water, and any strenuous exercise for the next couple of days. As the hair grows back, it may start to shed, which is a sign that the laser is working. You can gently exfoliate the area to speed up the shedding process.

Each device has different instructions on how often to use the laser, but it usually takes a few months of consistent use to see significant results.

Are the results permanent?

While many people use lasers with the hopes of never having to shave again, there’s no guarantee the treatment will remove all your hair, forever.

“Multiple factors such as hormonal changes, medications, the efficacy of the device, and whether or not the treatment regimen was consistent will affect results,” says Dr. McKenna. “Touch ups, spot treatments, and even ongoing treatments can be necessary with at-home devices. But for many women, it’s still better than the irritation and inconvenience of shaving, waxing, or tweezing.”

Before we get to the detailed recommendations, let’s first look at why home laser and IPL don’t usually work on fair hair.

WHY MOST LASER/IPL DOESN’T WORK ON FAIR HAIR
Dark hair responds best to home laser and IPL hair reduction. That’s because it has lots of a dark melanin pigment called eumelanin. This absorbs the IPL and laser light energy, heats up and damages key areas of the hair follicle. After several sessions it slows and stops your hair growth.

Black to light brown/dark blonde hair (left to centre) contain dark eumelanin pigment. Light blonde hair (right) contains just a teeny bit.
But it doesn’t work like this on fair hair and so all home lasers and most home IPL devices won’t work for you. That’s because:

A lock of red hair
Red hair has a type of melanin called pheomelanin. It won’t absorb IPL and laser energy.

A lock of light blonde hair
Very light blonde hair has a small amount of eumelanin and pheomelanin, and usually not enough eumelanin to absorb IPL and laser energy.

A lock of grey hair
Grey and white hair don’t have any of the melanin types and so won’t absorb the light energy either.

Boo. But there are a few options.

HOW DO SOME HOME DEVICES WORK & ARE RESULTS JUST AS GOOD?
A few of the most powerful home IPL devices may work on lighter blonde hair. That’s because, if there’s enough dark eumelanin pigment, the strong IPL flashes could create enough heat to gradually slow your hair growth. This excludes blonde hair that’s virtually white.

Skin and hair colour chart from the Smoothskin.com webiste, with ‘?’ next to light blonde hair colour and skin tones I to V. Plus a note you can try it risk-free on blonde hair.
The chart below comes from the Smoothskin website. You can see it here. Try on light blonde hair risk-free for 90 days.
However, only Smoothskin suggest trying their Pure IPL device on light blonde hair, as shown on the chart.

There’s no clinical test data for results on lighter blonde hair. The advice is based on customer feedback. However, the Pure comes with a 90-day money back guarantee. This means you can treat your light blonde hair during the guarantee period and, if you aren’t happy with the results, organise a return for a refund. Yay!

Bear in mind, it will take several more sessions to see results on blonde and light blonde hair. That’s because, with less eumelanin, there’s less hair-reducing damage done to your follicles than with darker hairs. You may need more frequent top-ups too. Consider this extra commitment in your decision.

The Pure is the only high-power IPL in this list for blonde hair, based on the worldwide money back guarantee AND brand advice. Other high-power IPLs are the Philips Lumea Prestige and the Braun Pro 5 IPL. You could try these alternatives on blonde hair too, but be sure to check there’s a valid money back guarantee where you live.

So, what about other options, and for other fair hair colours too?

For blonde, red, grey and white hairs you can try the Iluminage devices. Both are clinially proven to work on fair hairs. The Iluminage Touch is suited to face, small and large areas whereas the smaller version, called the Precise Touch, is suited to face and small areas.

Next, onto how these devices work..

IPL & RADIO FREQUENCY BY ILUMINAGE
The Iluminage devices are the only home devices clincally proven effective on blonde and red hair. And, although white/grey hair participants weren’t part of the clinical test, hair reduction results should be exactly the same on these hair colours too. That’s because they don’t rely only any dark melanin pigment in your hairs.

They work in two ways:

👉 #1 You must pluck, wax or epilate your fair hairs immediately before your session. This way, the IPL energy targets the small, dark blood droplets left behind in your follicles after they’re pulled out. The blood droplets absorb the IPL energy and convert to heat creating damage.

👉 #2 They also send Radio Frequency (RF) current into your skin. The IPL and RF work even better together to heat your hair follicles, even if they lack eumelanin.

It works like this:

RF is a painless electric current sent through the skin from one electrode to the other. The spacing of the RF electrodes is just right to send the RF current down to your hair root depth. You can’t feel it at all. But as it flows through your skin, the RF encounters resistance and this creates heat in your tissues.

Close up of the Iluminage Touch and Iluminage Precise Touch flash windows with arrows pointing to the silver RF electrode bars.
Two silver RF electrodes either side of the flash window create the RF circuit through your skin
And it works so well with the IPL because warmer structures are less resistant to electrical current. This means, as each IPL flash heats the blood droplet and the surrounding follicle, it draws the RF current towards it. This then concentrates around the follicle, right where it’s needed. So, your follicles get an extra dose of heat from the RF. This gradually damages areas of the hair follicle and slows your hair growth.

This is how the Iluminage devices work without relying on melanin-rich hair. And explains why it should also work on white/grey hair too.

Pluck, wax or epilate immediately before your sessions. The Touch comes with an epilator attachement.
However, because the blood droplets are so small, it’s less efficient as it is on eumelanin-rich dark hair. Therefore, you must zap each treatment area 2 or 3 times per session to ensure the follicles get a big enough dose of heat. And, during the start-up stage, you must wax/epilate/pluck and zap hairs several times to be effective. So, prepare yourself you’ll need over double the recommended sessions. There’s more on this next.

WHAT RESULTS WILL I SEE WHEN?
Iluminage devices start-up schedule for fair hair
Iluminage devices start-up schedule for fair hair
All home laser and IPL devices recommend a start-up treatment schedule, followed by less frequent maintenance sessions.

The following table shows the advertised schedules for each of my recommended devices, plus any additional guidance for blonde or all fair hair colours.

Device treatment schedules:

of start-up sessions Frequency Top-ups

Iluminage Precise Touch 7 on high & low intensities*
14+ for fair hair & plucked hairs Weekly As needed.
Iluminage Touch 7 on high & low intensities*
14+ for fair hair & plucked hairs Weekly As needed.
Smoothskin Pure 12 on high & low intensities Weekly As needed.

  • Iluminage shares for the first 6 or 7 weeks, you can use their devices 2 to 3 times per week on your face.

With the Pure, shave your hairs before each session. Pluck, wax or epilate immediately before sessions with the Touch and Precise Touch.

It will take several weeks of sessions before you’ll notice slower and softer growing, or fewer hairs. So be prepared for the extra time and commitment!

👉 With the Pure on dark hair, most see noticeable results between 4 to 6 weeks. It’s likely to take longer on light blonde hairs, perhaps the full 12 session start-up schedule.

👉 Although not published anywhere, Iluminage previously shared you’ll need at least double the start-up sessions (14+) to see results on fair hair.

So, keep going and complete the full start-up schedules. You may even need more sessions. The switch to top-ups. On dark hair, brands suggest these monthly. However, you may need them more frequently, every couple of weeks or so. Remove your hairs and zap them as you notice growth.

TIP: with the Iluminage devices your reduction in growth rate and hair thickness is not as obvious as it is on shaved hairs. Therefore, it may seem like it’s not working. Stick at it!

Results range from totally hair free results to slower growing, much finer hair that’s much easier and less time consuming to manage. And remember, inactive hair follicles can wake-up and sprout new hairs. So, you’ll need to shave/pluck and zap them as they appear!

HOW TO STAY SAFE
The Iluminage devices are sage for ALL skin tones, but the Smoothskin Pure is not safe for the very darkest skin tones.

The quick start guide gives you basic info on using the Smoothskin Bare. Be sure to download the full user manual and read it before you start!
Check the warnings & contraindications before you buy!
Before you start your sessions, read the user guide carefully. There’s an important list of warnings and reasons you may be unsuitable to use home laser and IPL devices. Such contraindications include pregnancy, breastfeeding, diabetes, medical & skin conditions, photosensitising medications, chemical peels and more. Stay safe and learn more about home laser & IPL safety and contraindications here.

✅ Women can use these devices from the cheekbones down

✅ Men can use them from the neck and down

❌ Don’t use them on the male beard or face, your genitals, anus, nipples, or on birthmarks, moles, or large freckles.

You must also do a skin sensitivity test in each treatment area. Follow the instructions in the user guide, and wait the specified time. If you have no skin reactions, proceed with your treatment. Do another skin sensitivity test after sun exposure or recent tanning.

You must also protect your skin from sun exposure before and after your sessions. Sunlight and tanning increase your skin’s sensitivity and so the risk of skin reactions and side effects.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR SESSIONS

Zap & grab epilator attachment on the Touch. Ouch.
You MUST pluck, wax or epilate your hairs immediately before zapping with the Iluminage devices. The Iluminage Touch comes with an epilator attachment so you can pluck and zap at the same time. However, you may find this too intense depending on your tolerance for epilation!

You MUST shave your hairs immediately before zapping with the Smoothskin Muse. Try dermaplaning if you don’t want to shave your face!

Then, make sure your skin is clean and dry too. Don’t apply moisturisers, lotions, creams, cosmetics, or deodorant before your sessions.

WHAT DO THEY FEEL LIKE?
You’ll hear the cooling fan whir and a small pop or click with each IPL flash. The IPL flashes are bright but harmless when flush against your skin. You don’t need protective goggles. If you find the flashes irritating, wear sunglasses to help ease the glare.

With these IPL devices, the flashes feel warm to hot on your skin. But some body areas are more sensitive. For me, the flashes feel most intense on my thighs and ankles. Most brands liken this sensation to an elastic band snapping against the skin. It’s instantaneous, uncomfortable but bearable.

Based on the online feedback, you’re more likely to feel it sting if your skin is a darker tone. But don’t worry because you can select gentle mode or drop the intensity level a notch or two if it’s too much. Also, try starting with your face and more sensitive areas when the flash window area is cool.

POSSIBLE SKIN REACTIONS & SIDE EFFECTS
Hot, tingly, red, dry or itchy skin are all common skin reactions. They usually fade within 24 to 48 hours. Sooth them with ice, a cool face cloth, cooling water sprays, Aloe Vera gel or a non-scented moisturiser. If they don’t fade, go see your doctor.

Remember: you must avoid the sun, cover-up or wear a sunscreen SPF30+ to protect your skin from skin reactions and side effects.

Side effects are rare but can occur. They include temporary or permanent patches of light or dark skin, burns, excessive redness and swelling around your hair follicles, blisters, and scarring. In these cases, consult your doctor.

Another extremely rare side effect on the face and neck is called Paradoxical Hypertrichosis. Paradoxical Hypertrichosis is increased hair growth in the treatment areas. The reasons behind it are unknown but it’s thought to occur more frequently in users of Mediterranean descent, and/or with underlying medical conditions such as hirsutism.

So, now let’s take a closer look at each device and what they’re like to use:

If you’ve missed how the Precise Touch works on fair hair, find out here.

I recommend the Iluminage Precise Touch for fair hair users especially if you’ll treat your face and/or small body areas. That’s because it’s clinically proven to work on blonde and red hair (white and grey works in the same way) it gives decades of flashes for small areas, and is particularly suited to facial use.

TIP: You must remove your fair hairs at the root immediately before your session!

The Precise Touch is a mains-powered hand-held device. It’s very comfy to hold and easy to position despite a slightly bulky shape. The small flash window is the perfect size for your upper lip and is very easy to flash around your chin and jaw too. It’s also good for underarms and bikini line.

It’s decent quality, although the mains-cable is a little thin and tangly. However, you get ample flashes for face and smaller areas lasting around 10 years of monthly use. It’s not suitable for legs and large areas as it uses up too many flashes and takes ages with the small flash window.

It very simple to use too. Choose from the three Elōs intensity levels, then place flush on your skin. Wait for it to flash then move to the next spot. There’s no flash button to press – the flashes come on skin contact. Cover your skin in adjacent flashes, then repeat for a total 2 or 3 times. It’s quick on face and small body areas. You can treat facial hairs 2 or 3 times per week if needed.

It’s also clinically proven safe on all skin tones, so a top choice for darker tones.

Here’s a quick recap of pros and cons with the Iluminage Precise Touch:

Clinically proven to work on fair hairs
Clinically proven & FDA-cleared on ALL skin tones
Decent quality & comfy
Small accurate flash window & easy flashes
Decades of flashes for face & small areas
No money back guarantee
Not suited to large areas & legs

If you’ve missed how the Touch works on fair hair, find out here.

I recommend the Iluminage Touch for fair hair users especially if you’ll treat a combination of large & small body areas. That’s because it’s clinically proven to work on blonde and red hair (white and grey works in the same way), and its suited to face, small amd large body areas.

TIP: You must remove your fair hairs at the root immediately before your session!

The Iluminage Touch works the same as the smaller Iluminage Precise Touch, but the design and operation is better if you’ll treat large areas as well as small.

The Touch’s mains-powered base unit and corded applicator design is slightly outdated, but it’s robust and very comfortable to use. The applicator-cord is durable, long, and supple, and the applicator itself compact, lightweight, and easy to manoeuvre around your body. It’s very easy to flash, even on uneven areas like shins and ankles. The medium flash window (3cm2) fits most body areas, and the precision cap covers half for easy flashes on your upper lip.

There are two models; one with 120,000 and the other with 300,000 flashes. The first lasts around 2 years of monthly whole-body sessions. The latter lasts for around 5 years of monthly whole-body sessions so is much better value. Depending on how often you need top-up sessions you may eventually run out of flashes. Replacement flash cartridges are available (but quite expensive).

The materials feel quality, the build is sturdy and the applicator cord is flexible and robust. It feels durable and long-lasting. You get a good 1 or 2-year warranty depending on where you buy it. Unfortunately, there’s no money back guarantee.

Start LOW and progress up to Med or HIGH only if comfortable
There are 3 IPL intensity levels. Start LOW and move up only if comfortable.

It’s simple to work. Just choose your Elōs intensity level and place the flash window flush on your skin. Wait for it to flash then slide to the next position, covering your skin in adjacent flashes. Then repeat for a total 2 or 3 times. It flashes on skin contact, so there’s no button to press.

The flashes are consistent so you can work to a steady pace. And it’s very easy to get a flash too thanks to the RF sensor bars. However, it takes ages to cover your whole legs because you must do multiple passes. Two passes are reasonable on large areas like legs and each takes me around 20 minutes. I recommend three passes for smaller areas like underarms and bikini line where the hair is usually thicker and more stubborn. You can also treat facial hairs 2 or 3 times per week if needed.

Here’s a quick round-up of the pros and cons of the Iluminage Touch:

Clinically proven to work on fair hair
Clinically proven & FDA-cleared on ALL skin tones
Gentle IPL
Robust & comfy
Lightweight applicator with easy flashes on skin contact
300,000 flashes model gives several years of flashes for whole-body sessions
Very time consuming on large areas like legs
120,000 flashes model is best suited to face & small areas
It’s expensive at full RRP
No money back guarantee

The Pure is quality, handsome, powerful, incredibly comfy and easy to use, and gives the fastest sessions of all the home IPL devices I’ve tested. It’s so easy because it has a super-safe skin tone sensor which auto-adjusts the IPL intensity level to your skin tone for every flash. Simply plug-it-in, position, and zap! There’s also a gentle and speed mode for extra control.

It’s a powerful IPL too. And this is why it may work on light blonde hair. Try it if you have fair skin and can use the highest intensity levels. It’s a top choice and I love the worldwide 90-day money back guarantee so you can try it and return it for a refund if you change your mind.
