Tea Tree Oil For Male Breast Enlargement

Gynecomastia is a condition in which a man’s breast tissue grows unusually large. It’s typically caused by excessive estrogen in the body, which can be caused by a number of factors.

Tea tree oil is not known to cause gynecomastia, but it does contain compounds that may interact with hormones in ways that could lead to increased estrogen levels.

If you’re concerned about your risk of developing gynecomastia, talk with your doctor about the best way to manage it.

does tea tree oil cause gynecomastia

A recent study reveals that prepubertal gynecomastia, a disorder characterized by increased breast tissue in males before puberty, may be caused by the recurrent topical use of products containing lavender oil and/or tea tree oil.

Prepubertal gynecomastia causes are not always easy for doctors to nail down. After identifying three young male patients, pediatric endocrinologist Dr. Clifford Bloch of the University of Colorado Denver and Health Science Center’s School of Medicine decided to investigate more. At the time of diagnosis, all three patients were healthy young Caucasian boys ages 4, 7, and 10. After interviewing the parents, Bloch discovered that all of them had used soaps, skin lotions, shampoos, and hair styling products containing lavender oil. When the products were finally taken off the market, the gynecomastia gradually faded away.

Bloch conferred with experts from the NIH’s National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences on the incidents (NIEHS). To determine whether or whether the oils may change the genes typically influenced by estrogen (a female hormone that promotes breast tissue growth) or androgen (a male hormone that suppresses breast tissue growth), NIEHS researchers resorted to human cells. Their findings were reported in the February 2007 edition of the New England Journal of Medicine.

Pure oils of lavender and tea tree were shown to imitate the acts of estrogens and block the effects of androgens in laboratory trials. Although these data do not definitively link the oils to the occurrence of prepubertal gynecomastia in the three boys, they do offer a plausible explanation for Blochs’ observations.

Tea Tree Oil For Male Breast Enlargement

In recent years, the use of essential oils has exploded, with many individuals turning to them for help with anything from acne and cold sores to obesity and indigestion.

Lavender and tea tree oils may contain compounds associated to aberrant breast growth in young boys, according to a new study presented Saturday at The Endocrine Society’s 100th annual meeting and exhibition. Huh?!

A 2007 research published in The New England Journal of Medicine found similar results, concluding that regular use of products containing lavender and tea tree oil may lead to gynecomastia in men (a.k.a breast growth.)

Both lavender and tea tree oil have been found to have testosterone-inhibiting and estrogen-like characteristics in earlier studies. Estrogen is the hormone responsible for the development and control of the female reproductive system (the hormone responsible for the equivalent in males).
