If you’re considering a breast lift, you’ve probably already done your research. You may have found that the surgery itself can cost anywhere from $3,000 to $7,000. But what about the rest of the costs? Is there anything else you should know?

When it comes to breast-lift costs, there are a lot of factors that go into determining how much money you will spend on your procedure. The most important factor is whether or not the surgeon performs a skin-only lift or an anchor lift.

In a skin-only lift, only the skin and tissue surrounding your breasts are lifted and repositioned. This type of procedure costs less because it requires fewer incisions and therefore less time in the operating room. However, since only the skin is being lifted, it may not provide as much improvement in breast shape as other procedures do—which can make it a good choice for women who don’t want too much change in their appearance.

Anchor lifts are more expensive because they require more extensive work than skin-only lifts do: In addition to lifting and repositioning just the skin and tissue around your breasts, anchor lifts also involve moving breast implants (if you have them) and removing excess fat

How Is a Tummy Tuck Performed?

Dr. Weiler, Dr. Hogan, and Dr. Brownlee perform abdominoplasty as an outpatient procedure using general anesthesia. They typically place an incision that spans between the hip bones just above the pubic area, and a second incision that traces the inner navel. After separating the skin from the inner tissues, your surgeon repairs the abdominal muscles if necessary. Your surgeon also performs aggressive liposuction of the belly, hips, and waist to contour the midsection. Your surgeon completes the procedure by smoothing the outer skin down, inserting the navel through its new location in the tightened skin, trimming excess lax skin, and closing the incisions.

During the surgery, two thin tubes called surgical drains are inserted through the incision to aid in removing excess fluid from treated areas to accelerate healing and reduce swelling.

Our Talented Team of Plastic Surgeons

Our plastic surgeons bring years of experience and dedication to personalized care to the men and women of Louisiana. Together, they share a vision of enriching and improving their patients’ lives.

Breast Lift Recovery Time

While recovery rates vary, most patients are ready to return to work and daily activities within 2 weeks. You will need an adult friend or family member to drive you home after surgery and help you out for the first few days. Because a non-opioid medication called EXPAREL® is applied to the surgical area during surgery, pain is typically well controlled for the first 72 hours.

Help the Healing Process

While you may not be able to stand fully upright initially, it is important to get up and walk slowly as soon as the evening of your surgery or the next morning. Light walking promotes circulation and facilitates the healing process.

You will need to wear a surgical body-shaping garment at all times for the first 2 weeks, and then as much as possible for a total of 4 to 6 weeks. The constant gentle pressure minimizes swelling and encourages smooth contours as your body heals.

Check in With Your Doctor

You will return for your first post-op check a day or 2 after surgery so we can remove your dressings and examine the incisions. Drains are usually removed at the 1-week post-op visit.

Having the title of ‘mom’ is one of the hardest gigs out there, so it comes as no surprise that the mommy makeover is one of the most searched and performed procedures that we see… not to mention, one of the most well deserved and life-changing.

Pregnancy and motherhood for that matter can take a toll on a woman’s body, and despite the exhausting efforts of exercise and dieting, sometimes it’s still not enough to get you back to your pre-baby body.

So, wondering what the cost of such a deserving procedure is? We’re here to break it down for you because we understand that the last thing a busy mom has time to be doing is searching the web for answers with no real end in sight.

When it comes to the critically acclaimed mommy makeover, there are a variety of factors that contribute to the total cost and can vary widely per patient – but we’re here to give you as close to a cost estimate as we can, or at least what to look for when evaluating the cost of procedures.

Details regarding price, the length of the procedure and recovery time are courtesy of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). The price of each surgery will vary considerably by geographic region and does not include facility fees, anesthesia, and other surgical costs.

Mommy Makeover Overview

Let’s start with a simple overview of what a mommy makeover is, and what the procedure typically entails.

Even the healthiest moms who work hard to get their figures back find that the changes from pregnancy simply cannot be undone and exercised away. Excess skin is left behind as that occurs when the body is stretched and pulled, the swelling and subsequent shrinking of the breasts can leave them flat and sometimes sagging.

‘Mommy makeover’ is not a new term for a series of procedures referring to the combination of procedures that surgically restores the pre-baby shape as close as possible. On a basic level, a mommy makeover is some any breast surgery accompanied by any abdominal surgery. By performing these operations at the same time, you’re able to lessen recovery time and get back on your feet quickly.

These breast procedures may include one of the following:

A breast operation is paired with one of the following body surgeries to constitute a mommy makeover:

Breast augmentation

If your breasts have lost their volume or are just sagging more than you would like, breast augmentation may be the right choice. After a one- to two-hour surgery, you can walk away with either saline- or silicone-filled implants. It’s a permanent procedure, but sometimes breast implants do need to be replaced years down the road.

While it is essential to have a basic understanding of the other factors that influence the cost of a breast augmentation, one of the most significant is your choice of a breast implant. The price for breast augmentations varies depending on an individual patient’s goals and needs with surgery.

When considering cost as it relates to silicone versus saline breast implants, a key component to think about is the look and feel you are trying to achieve. Are you looking to go with a more natural look and feel, or would you prefer a substance that is a bit firmer but has a similar composition to the fluid that makes up most of the human body?

Breast lift

If the thought of implants makes you uncomfortable, a breast lift may be the way to go to mommy makeover recapture that coveted youthful look and shape. Perky doesn’t have to be a thing of the past – this procedure offers an alternative method to re-inflate sagging, droopy and poorly shaped breasts. Excess skin is removed, breast tissue is lifted, and nipples and areolae are moved or even reduced in size.

Like breast augmentation, side effects can include temporary discomfort, swelling, bruising and scars which will fade with time. It’s a procedure that can take an hour and a half to over three hours to complete, but the good news is that the results are long-lasting. You can’t stop gravity completely, but you can put it on pause for a little while. Most patients should be able to return to work in one to two weeks.

Breast augmentation with lift

Many women who have had children are excellent candidates for a combination breast augmentation with simultaneous full lift since the breasts tend to stretch and lose shape and volume after pregnancy. However, this procedure can be beneficial for any woman who wants to enhance the size of her breasts as well as reduce breast sag.

Breast Reduction

A breast reduction may be helpful for women who experience soreness in the back, neck, and shoulders, or who suffer from pain due to bra strap indentations. Women who want a smaller breast size and improved breast shape can also benefit from a breast reduction.

Tummy tuck

An abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, is a procedure that can take two to five hours from start to finish. Your surgeon will remove excess skin, may reposition your navel and will give your weak abdominal muscles new life by tightening the abdominal wall.

A scar is inevitable in a tummy tuck and recovery is slow – you can be back to work and mommy duty in one to three weeks, but it could be longer depending upon an individual’s physical condition. The results though can be a dramatically flatter stomach and narrower waist.

Liposuction

Body contouring is the friendly term for liposuction, but the procedure isn’t glamorous by any means. Having fat sucked out of your body isn’t any prettier than it sounds – but the results can be amazing and instantaneous. If you’ve ever seen a liposuction on television, it looks vicious, but there are newer methods that do reduce some of that violence by melting the fat first with ultrasound.

Keep in mind, liposuction is not an alternative to weight reduction. It can, however, be effective in removing stubborn fat that doesn’t react to diet and exercise. What this means is – don’t be surprised if your doctor recommends that you lose more weight before embarking on this procedure.

Depending on how much area you’re looking to have liposuctioned, the process can take anywhere from 45 minutes to two hours. Bruising, soreness and even some numbness may occur, but the final contour is usually evident at the three-month mark. You can be back to work in about one to two weeks but be prepared to wear a compression garment for up to six weeks to encourage your skin to contract and decrease the inevitable swelling.

Mommy makeover statistics

It’s important to note that the cost of a mommy makeover can vary dramatically from one patient to another and often does not include other surgery-related expenses. The major costs that factor into your total are the surgeon’s fee, facility fee, anesthesia fee, post-surgery fees and cost of implants.

So, to provide a somewhat straightforward answer, the overall cost for mommy makeover surgery can range from $9,000 to $20,000.

But again, the final cost will depend on a variety of factors and variables of the following:

Surgeon selection

All surgeons have their approach to performing mommy makeovers as they have different amenities at their disposal and varying levels of experience and accreditations.

It’s fair to assume that selecting a surgeon can singlehandedly be the most significant influence when it comes to the total cost of surgery. For example, at Austin-Weston, The Center for Cosmetic Surgery, our four board-certified plastic surgeons have accumulated a combined 75 years of experience, and with that have cultivated an excellent reputation in the Northern Virginia and DC Metro area.

We can only speak for ourselves when we say that each surgery is preceded by an extensive consultation involving computer analysis and imaging technology, as well as the master-eye of our surgeons to ensure that we deliver satisfying and life-changing results for our patients.

Geographic location

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) website lists the national average of plastic surgery physician fees. However, the fly in the ointment is that total prices vary widely among regions, with plastic surgery hotspots like Manhattan, Beverly Hills, Miami, Dallas and Los Angeles at the higher end of the spectrum.

The reason plastic surgery costs vary based on geographic locations, such as major urban centers, is usually due to higher overhead costs for surgeons in these areas. So, the first step in considering what you’ll pay is looking at fees where you live and how much the cost of living is in that area.

To find ballpark prices for procedures based on location by using the Healthcare Blue Book (it works the same way Kelley Blue Book lists the prices of cars).

Surgical facility

The surgical facility is a major factor to consider not only because of overall cost but because it may put a price tag on the importance of your safety and satisfaction.

The importance of having your procedure performed in an accredited surgical facility by qualified staff is critical in the decision-making process. Do not try to cut costs by sacrificing safety and having your procedure performed at a non-accredited practice or by a surgeon not certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

The Austin-Weston Center is a beautiful, free-standing surgery facility located in Reston, Virginia, fully-equipped with five surgical suites. Our state of the art facility features operating rooms fully accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), an association that accredits office-based surgical facilities.

Our surgeons are board certified in plastic surgery and fully insured, our Certified Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) are nationally certified by the Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists, and all personnel is licensed and certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

Surgery-related expenses

You should ask the surgeon directly if these are all the costs involved in your estimate. Since there is no set dollar amount for such expenditures, it is important to explore multiple options by meeting with several surgeons and getting estimates for not only their surgeon fees but also the additional surgical-related expenses.

When determining the cost for a mommy makeover, make sure to account for the following surgery-related expenses:

Anesthesia fees

The cost of anesthesia for mommy makeover surgery can also vary. With a board-certified anesthesiologist, the price will be higher. With a CRNA (nurse anesthetist) the price will be lower. Another factor that can decrease cost is when a doctor uses a non-certified anesthetist nurse, or a medical assistant to push the anesthetic drugs (and yes, unfortunately, this does happen). Anesthesia fees are by the hour, and if the surgeon is taking his time to make the results as meticulous as possible, the anesthesia fee will be higher. Which can also vary depending on the technique used for the surgery, which can sometimes take longer or shorter to perform.

Abdominal skin which has stretched significantly — whether from dramatic weight loss or other causes — often won’t return to its original tone. For women, in particular, abdominal skin and muscle often stretch and lose tone due to factors like pregnancy. Even individuals who undertake strenuous diet and exercise routines to improve their abdominals won’t be able to restore this loss of tone effectively. A tummy tuck procedure, however, can target this hard to improve area, reduce excess skin and improve muscle tone to give individuals tight, firm abs again and the smooth mid-section they desire.

Abdominoplasty, also commonly referred to as a tummy tuck, is a surgical procedure that can tighten abdominal muscles, excise loose skin and removes excess fat to restore a toned abdomen with smooth skin and substantially improved body contours. The procedure, in the hands of a skilled board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Odinet, is highly customizable and can give individuals the precise amount of rejuvenation they desire, whether they have mild or more severe symptoms. Dr. Odinet’s training along with the personalized attention and care given to each patient from consultation through recovery ensure patients’ have outstanding results after surgery.

What is a tummy tuck?

Abdominoplasty is a procedure designed for individuals who wish to restore a tight and contoured abdominal area. Dr. Odinet may tighten muscles in this area, excise loose skin and remove excess fat to ensure each patient has the highest-quality outcome. Dr. Odinet will usually perform this procedure under general anesthesia, and the surgery will sometimes require an overnight hospital stay. The results of the surgery can be very long-lasting especially if the patient maintains a lifestyle that includes a healthy diet and regular exercise after they have recovered from surgery. A tummy tuck is also frequently performed with complementary procedures such as breast augmentation and liposuction to give each client his or her desired level of rejuvenation.

Is a tummy tuck right for me?

Men and women who have concerns about the appearance of their midsections which diet and exercise cannot address are often good candidates for a tummy tuck procedure. You should visit Dr. Odinet for a consultation to determine if a tummy tuck is the right approach for you if:

To be considered for surgery, patients must have reached a healthy weight and demonstrated their ability to maintain a healthy routine of diet and exercise to maintain a stable, healthy weight. Women must have finished having children. Additional weight gain or pregnancy after a tummy tuck procedure can adversely affect your results.

How To Choose Your Tummy Tuck Surgeon

A tummy tuck is a major surgery which should only be trusted to surgeons who have received significant training in the procedure, have been board-certified to perform it, have significant experience performing it and also have a discerning and artistic eye. Dr. Odinet encompasses all of these qualifications as a triple board-certified plastic surgeon with nearly 30 years in practice helping individuals overcome a wide variety of health and cosmetic concerns. Any surgeon you consider for your tummy tuck procedure should also have a sincere consideration for your intended goals and desired outcomes and ensure that all aspects of your procedure are considered from your preparation for surgery to your time in recovery. Dr. Odinet prides himself on taking a comprehensive view to patient care, ensuring that outstanding results are achieved with the utmost concern for patient health and comfort.

The Benefits of a Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck offers qualified patients many visible benefits which include:

Although a tummy tuck can restore the appearance of the abs and resolve many common concerns that men and women have, it is not always the ideal procedure for everyone. During your consultation with Dr. Odinet, you will explore whether a tummy tuck or another procedure will best address the symptoms you have and achieve your desired look. Your concerns and desired outcome will always dictate the most appropriate course of treatment.

The Tummy Tuck Consultation Process

Every tummy tuck procedure will be tailored to the needs of the individual patient based on factors which include how much skin must be excised and whether or not muscle augmentation or fat removal will be necessary. The minimal amount of treatment will be given to achieve each patient’s desired results, ensuring each patient’s safety throughout the procedure.

The Mini Tummy Tuck

One option which Dr. Odinet will discuss with you when determining how much augmentation is needed is the mini tummy tuck procedure. This technique utilizes a shorter incision, permits the excision of less skin but can still provide the appropriate level of rejuvenation for specific candidates. The shorter incision also has other advantages, including a shorter and more comfortable recovery time and a smaller scar after recovery. Like a full tummy tuck, a mini tummy tuck can address muscle laxity, and fat removal can also be performed concurrently with the procedure. However, navel repositioning is not possible during a mini tummy tuck. Patients can also pair a mini tummy tuck with other procedures — CoolSculpting or liposuction, for example — just as they would if they were having a full tummy tuck. For the right candidates, a mini tummy tuck can provide outstanding results with greater convenience than a full tummy tuck.

Dr. Odinet will assess whether you qualify for this version of the surgery and present it as an option to you during your consultation if your symptoms and goals warrant it. If you qualify for a mini tummy tuck, the choice of whether to have a mini or full tummy tuck is yours to make. Dr. Odinet will explain the opportunities and drawbacks of each procedure in detail and welcome any questions you have about the techniques. The goal of the consultation process is to ensure that you are fully informed about each of your options so that you can make a sound choice to achieve your goals and leave with a complete understanding of your procedure and recovery.

How To Prepare For Your Tummy Tuck Procedure

There are many steps individuals can take to ensure they have a safe surgery and a healthy recovery. Dr. Odinet will provide you with ample information before your surgery so that you can begin preparing your body and your home for a successful tummy tuck. Some of the concerns you can expect to discuss with the surgeon include:

Smoking — Patients must stop smoking for at least six weeks before and after their tummy tuck. Nicotine can negatively impact healing incisions, and the size of the incision used during this surgery makes quitting tobacco use even more imperative.

Medications — It is important that the surgeon understand all prescription drugs and supplements you are taking since many substances can thin the blood, leading to excessive bleeding which can be life-threatening during any surgery. Alert Dr. Odinet if you currently or have recently used any non-steroidal anti-inflammatories or Vitamin E the week before surgery.

Support at Home — Naturally, you will have limited mobility immediately after you return home from surgery. It is also essential that you be able to rest so that your body can heal. During this time, you will also want to avoid making any movements which can unnecessarily stress your incisions and harm your results. Having a friend or loved one at home to help you with meal preparation and any child or pet care can be crucial to your recovery.

Prepare Your Home — Before surgery, you will need to have the prescription medications which Dr. Odinet has prescribed for you on-hand as well as pre-prepared meals and entertainment items available to you, such as movies, books and your favorite music at home. You will also want to have your cell phone and charger nearby with your surgeon’s number and the number of loved ones and a close-by hospital, just in case. By preparing your home in advance, you can enjoy a much more comfortable and safe recovery.

While you are primarily responsible for your recovery at home, Dr. Odinet will always remain available to you for general questions and advice during this time. You are always welcome to call his office no matter how small the concern may seem. It is more important to address any issues you may have quickly than allow them to progress into more significant problems; however, in general, issues after surgery are rare.

What Will Happen During Your Tummy Tuck Surgery

A tummy tuck can take between two and three hours to perform. Typically, the procedure is performed under general anesthesia and may be completed as an outpatient procedure in Dr. Odinet’s AAAASF surgical facility or on an inpatient basis at Park Place Surgical Hospital, depending on the extent of the surgery. During your procedure, Dr. Odinet will ensure that the lower incision is low enough to be concealed by undergarments and that the upper incision is placed in the folds of the navel to lessen visible scarring as much as possible. Dr. Odinet will then go on to tighten the abdominal muscles if needed and also remove any excess fat if that was agreed upon during your consultation. If the navel must be repositioned to ensure a natural result, this will be done at this point during the surgery. Liposuction on the flanks can also be performed to enhance your results. The surgeon will excise loose skin before suturing the incisions to ensure a taut midsection is produced after surgery. Finally, dressings will be applied over the sutures, and you will be fitted with a compression garment to protect your incisions, increase your comfort (by reducing swelling) and promote healing.

Recovering From Your Tummy Tuck

Swelling and tenderness in the surgical area are natural after any surgery and will be a factor during your tummy tuck recovery; however, these side effects can be managed through pain medication and by continuing to wear your compression garment as recommended. Dr. Odinet will also give you instructions on how to care for your incisions to encourage healing, minimize any unwanted complications and reduce overall scarring. You will need at minimum two weeks at home for your recovery before you can return to work if you have a sedentary job, but you will need to continue to avoid more vigorous activities, such as exercise and contact sports, for up to six weeks. The time invested in your recovery will be well worth it once you begin to see the results of your surgery.

The Results of a Tummy Tuck Procedure

Swelling, which is a natural result of surgery, may mask your results during the first few weeks of recovery. However, as swelling subsides, you will begin to notice the flattering and more toned abdominal region that is the result of a tummy tuck surgery. Formerly visible stretch marks may be reduced or gone entirely, leaving you with a midsection that looks much more youthful, fit and attractive.

Your incisions will continue to heal in the months after your surgery, and scarring will fade as well. To ensure that your incisions heal well, it is critical that you avoid direct sunlight as much as possible since harmful UV rays can discolor delicate scar tissue. If you take proper care of your incisions throughout recovery, your healthy scar tissue will continue to become less noticeable over time.

A tummy tuck offers patients long-lasting results if a healthy lifestyle is maintained after surgery. You will reap many benefits from the surgery besides a much more flattering figure and profile, however. Most patients experience an energy boost and a new-found confidence that directly translates into better and more satisfying relationships and more joyful experiences free from the worry and self-consciousness that they may have experienced before surgery. A tummy tuck can be a truly transformative procedure.
