The Importance of a Toned Abdominal Area

When it comes to achieving an ideal figure, having a flat and toned abdominal area is crucial. Not only does it contribute to a more attractive appearance, but it also helps create a well-proportioned silhouette. Unfortunately, for many women, diet and exercise alone are not always enough to achieve the desired results. Factors such as genetics, pregnancy, aging, and weight fluctuation can lead to excess abdominal fat and skin, making it difficult to attain a toned stomach through traditional methods.

Understanding Abdominoplasty

Abdominoplasty, commonly known as a tummy tuck, is a surgical procedure designed to address excess fat and skin in the abdominal area. The procedure also aims to restore weak or separated muscles, resulting in a smoother, flatter, and firmer stomach. Abdominoplasty is often recommended for individuals who have been unable to achieve their desired results through diet and exercise alone, or for those who have experienced significant changes in their body composition due to factors such as pregnancy or weight fluctuations.

The Procedure

During an abdominoplasty, the surgeon will make an incision along the lower abdomen, removing excess fat and skin. The underlying muscles may also be tightened or repaired to create a more sculpted appearance. The remaining skin is then repositioned and sutured into place, resulting in a smoother and more toned abdominal area. The procedure typically takes a few hours to complete and is performed under general anesthesia.

Recovery and Results

After undergoing abdominoplasty, patients can expect some discomfort, swelling, and bruising in the treated area. It is essential to follow post-operative instructions provided by the surgeon to ensure proper healing and optimal results. Most individuals can return to work and regular activities within a few weeks, although strenuous exercise should be avoided for a longer period to allow the body to fully recover.

Conclusion

In conclusion, abdominoplasty is a highly effective procedure for addressing excess abdominal fat and skin, as well as restoring weakened or separated muscles. By undergoing a tummy tuck, individuals can achieve a smoother, flatter, and firmer abdominal area, leading to a more proportioned figure and increased confidence. It is essential to consult with a qualified plastic surgeon to determine if abdominoplasty is the right option for achieving your aesthetic goals.

A TUMMY TUCK PROCEDURE IN EAST LANSING

A tummy tuck procedure, in East Lansing, is usually performed under general anesthesia. An incision is made beneath the belly button and above the pubic hairline to remove excess skin, tighten muscles, and for liposuction to remove excess fat. At the completion of surgery, taping and dressings are placed to help protect and heal the wound. In some cases, the insertion of a small tube is required temporarily to help drain any excess fluid.

RECOVERY AFTER A TUMMY TUCK SURGERY

Early Ambulation and Healing After Tummy Tuck Surgery

Following tummy tuck surgery, also known as abdominoplasty, it is crucial to encourage early ambulation for the patient. This means getting up and moving around as soon as possible after the procedure. While it is important to take it easy and not overexert yourself, moving around can help prevent complications such as blood clots and aid in the healing process.During the healing process, it is common for patients to experience swelling, soreness, and drainage from the incision site. These symptoms can be managed with pain medications as directed by your surgeon. It is important to follow their instructions carefully and not to exceed the recommended dosage.Recovery times after a tummy tuck can vary depending on the individual and the extent of the surgery. In general, light activity can typically be resumed around two weeks after the procedure. However, it is important to follow all post-operative instructions provided by your surgeon to ensure a smooth recovery. As the healing process progresses, the full results of the tummy tuck surgery will begin to be revealed. Patients can expect to see a beautifully flat and defined abdomen once the swelling has subsided and the incisions have healed. This can be a very rewarding moment for patients who have undergone the procedure to achieve a more sculpted and toned midsection.

Overall, following tummy tuck surgery, it is important to prioritize early ambulation, manage common symptoms of swelling and soreness with pain medications, and follow all post-operative instructions carefully. With proper care and patience, patients can enjoy the full results of their tummy tuck procedure and achieve the flat and defined abdomen they desire.

When it comes to weight loss and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, diet and exercise are critical. But unfortunately, even with regular exercise and a healthy, well-balanced diet, excess skin on the abdomen is a problem for many people. Though healthy living can help people lose weight and tighten muscles, they cannot tighten or reduce excess skin; in some cases, diet and exercise also have little to no effect on fatty areas of the abdomen either. Whether due to genetics, pregnancy, age, or weight fluctuation, it is not uncommon for people to struggle with loose skin and fat around their stomachs. Abdominoplasty, better known as a tummy tuck, is a surgical procedure that is used to remove loose skin and fat from the abdomen to create a slimmer, smoother silhouette. Though it’s not the primary function of a tummy tuck, some patients also see a reduction in stretch marks following surgery.

Tummy tucks are typically performed under general anesthesia but may also be performed using intravenous sedation. An incision is made horizontally above the pubic area. The size of the incision varies depending on the amount of correction required. Through this incision, excess fat and skin are removed, muscles are repositioned and tightened, and the skin is pulled down to create a smoother, tighter appearance.

If you are considering a tummy tuck in Okemos or the surrounding area, call Michigan Plastic Surgery for more information and to schedule an initial consultation with board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Lee H. Colony. During your consultation with Dr. Colony, you will have the opportunity to address your concerns and your desired expectations. Tummy Tuck Cost Michigan

A tummy tuck or abdominoplasty removes excess skin and fat that may have accumulated after pregnancy or due to obesity or age.

The University of Michigan is a nationally recognized leader in reconstructive surgery. Our team of board-certified plastic surgeons and medical specialists guides our patients through every step of the tummy tuck/abdominoplasty process to ensure the best results possible.

Is a Tummy Tuck Right for You?

An abdominoplasty will tighten the abdominal muscles/fascia, which may have become stretched out over time. This procedure can dramatically aid in the reduction of a prominent abdomen. Abdominoplasty can be done in conjunction with a buttock/thigh lift.

Best Candidates
A tummy tuck is best for patients who are otherwise in good health without active diseases or serious, pre-existing medical conditions. If you plan to become pregnant or to lose a significant amount of weight, you should discuss these plans with your doctor before surgery. Abdominoplasty is not a treatment for obesity or a substitute for proper diet and exercise.

The Procedure

Typically, the surgeon will make two incisions. The first is a long incision from hipbone to hipbone, just above the pubic area. A second incision frees the navel from surrounding tissue. In a mini-abdominoplasty, the first incision is much shorter and the navel may not be moved, although its appearance may be slightly altered. After the incisions, the surgeon separates the skin from the abdominal wall all the way up to the ribs, then lifts a large skin flap, revealing the vertical muscles in the abdomen. The surgeon then tightens these muscles by pulling them close together and stitching them into their new position. This provides a firmer abdominal wall and narrows the waistline.

A complete abdominoplasty can take from 2 to 5 hours, depending on the extent of work required. A mini-abdominoplasty may take 1 or 2 hours.

Alternatives
During your initial physical examination, your plastic surgeon may find that you would be a good candidate for less invasive procedures that would still allow you to meet your appearance goals. Alternative procedures may include a mini-abdominoplasty, liposuction or a panniculectomy, a procedure that reduces hanging skin in the abdominal area. View all of our body contouring surgeries.

Your Consultation

If you’re interested in a tummy tuck, we’ll first have you come for a personal consultation with your plastic surgeon. You will have the opportunity to discuss your goals and the results you would like to achieve. Your surgeon will work with you to reach an understanding about what you can expect from this procedure and the long-term benefits. Every patient is different, and your surgeon will choose the surgical technique and treatment plan that is right for you. During your initial consultation, you should expect to:

  • Provide a complete medical history. Include information about any previous surgical procedures; past and present medical conditions; and all medications or herbal supplements you are taking.
  • Have your surgeon examine your abdomen, including the quality of your abdominal skin; the location of any existing scars; the amount and location of any excess fat; and the status of the underlying muscles.
  • Discuss the procedure’s possible risks and complications.

Surgery

Preparing for Your Surgery
After your consultation and decisions about surgery, we will give you pre-operative information that explains everything you should do and know before your procedure. Your surgical team will instruct you on how to prepare for surgery. You should arrange for someone to drive you home after your surgery. You also may want to make arrangements for someone to help you for a day or two while you heal.

Anesthesia
We use general anesthetic so that you will sleep and remain comfortable throughout the procedure.

Recovery
It’s very important that you follow your surgeon’s instructions. This will promote healing and improve progress towards your new physical appearance. Also, it’s important that you attend all follow-up appointments so that your surgeon can assess your long-term results and answer any questions or concerns.

Slimlipo Near Me

SlimLipo is a type of laser liposuction that removes unwanted fat, but is less invasive than traditional liposuction. It is noted for its ability to melt fat in particularly difficult or uneven areas as well as for its ability to tighten loose skin. Good candidates for this procedure are individuals with loose, saggy skin, or those desiring a smoother contour and toned appearance.

Highly regarded for his artistic eye and attention to detail, Dr. Hoefflin performs SlimLipo on the abdomen, waist, love handles, hips, saddle bags (outer thighs), inner thighs, knees, neck (under the chin), and the ankles. The result is a more contoured and “sculpted” appearance, which can greatly improve a patient’s self-confidence. Dr. Hoefflin performs many other body contouring procedures including liposuction, tummy tucks, arm lifts, breast augmentations, breast lifts, Mommy Makeovers, body lifts and plastic surgery after weight loss.

ABOUT THE PROCEDURE

During SlimLipo procedures, Dr. Hoefflin uses a laser to liquefy or “melt” unwanted fat under the skin. The fat is then removed from the body using a very thin hollow needle called a cannula. The procedure requires only a few small 1/4″ incisions and is gentler and less invasive than traditional liposuction. Because the incisions are tiny, the areas where the fat was removed will fade and typically become completely invisible over time.

Dr. Hoefflin typically performs SlimLipo directly within his professional offices using local anesthesia. However, patients who choose to have multiple areas treated may opt to have the procedure performed under general anesthesia in our state-of-the-art outpatient surgical facility for added comfort. The procedure typically takes one to three hours depending on the desired level of sculpting and number of areas being treated.

RECOVERY FROM ASLIMLIPO TREATMENT

One of the advantages of SlimLipo is that patients experience significantly less downtime as well as less bruising and swelling after the procedure. Most patients can return to work and their normal activities almost immediately.

Patients are discharged home with compression garments to support the treated areas. We encourage patients to wear these garments for a few weeks after their procedure to reduce swelling, ensure comfort, and promote healing. Any pain after the procedure is typically easily controlled with oral medication. Patients can resume light exercise after several weeks and can go back to their regular activities, including vigorous exercise, usually after six weeks.

We ask patients to begin a self-massaging protocol or Endermologie by LPG several days after a SlimLipo procedure to help diminish swelling, assist in healing, and speed recovery.

POSSIBLE COMPLICATIONS

Laser liposuction is a very safe procedure when performed by a properly qualified and board-certified plastic surgeon. The risk of serious problems after the SlimLipo procedure are rare. During your consultation, Dr. Hoefflin will discuss any specific risks with you and determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure. As always, you can reduce your risk of complications by closely following Dr. Hoefflin’s pre- and post-operative instructions.

To learn if you are a candidate for SlimLipo or body sculpting, contact board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Hoefflin.

The laser liposuction process starts with a complimentary consultation, where you will discuss your body contouring goals with a physician. If it is decided that laser liposuction is right for you, we will schedule your treatment date. You’ll also be fitted for a compression garment that you will wear once the procedure is completed. In the weeks before the procedure, lab work will be performed to confirm that you have no underlying health issues, and that you are a good candidate for the procedure.

We always recommend getting a good night’s sleep the evening before the procedure.

Before you enter the treatment room, the doctor will mark the area to be treated with colored markers to use as a roadmap during the procedure. The doctor also will take a series of photographs. The area to be treated is marked while the patient is standing up, to ensure the trouble spots are clearly defined. This is an important step, as the contour of the body shifts when the patient reclines for the procedure, masking the problem areas the patient sees in the mirror every morning.

You will lie comfortably on a soft, warm treatment bed, and we will use a small needle to inject local anesthesia into the incision sites to be used during the procedure. You may feel a slight pinching sensation, but these injections are generally painless, and are often the only discomfort felt during the procedure.

As the treatment is being performed, the patient usually relaxes and listens to music, or watches videos, and experiences little to no discomfort.

You will be given a mild sedative and relax while the area to be treated is gently filled with a tumescent solution, which numbs it from the inside. The doctor will make a few tiny incisions once the area is fully desensitized, then the laser and suctioning commence. A laser fiber is inserted under the skin and is passed through the subcutaneous fat layer, liquefying the fat cells. The laser fiber also heats the innermost structures of the skin, providing a noticeable lifting and tightening of the skin in the treatment area. Very thin suction wands called cannulas are then used to remove the liquefied fat cells.

Once the procedure is completed, absorbent pads are placed on the incision points, and a compression garment is fitted. Patients are back on their feet quickly, with most returning to work a day or two after the procedure.

When the procedure is completed, you will be ready to be driven home. We recommend that you take it easy for the remainder of the day and get a good night’s sleep. A friend or relative must be with you for the first overnight.

Initial post-treatment discomfort is mild, similar to the feeling after a hard workout, and is easily controlled with oral medication, usually Tylenol, but a narcotic can be used if needed. Be aware that there will be a moderate amount of pink or red drainage in the first 24 hours post procedure. This is normal.

You will wear a compression garment for a few weeks to aid in the recovery and body contouring process. We also like to schedule a follow-up visit shortly after the procedure to monitor your progress. Any bruising and swelling usually subsides in a few weeks. The final result takes shape over several months, as the skin continues to tighten long after the procedure has been completed.

The best candidates for laser liposuction are people who are relatively fit, but are still unable to achieve their desired body contour. The ideal candidate:

  • Is healthy and gets regular exercise
  • Is within 30 pounds of their ideal body weight
  • Has fat deposits that don’t seem to respond to diet and exercise
  • Has realistic expectations about what results to expect from the procedure
  • Is motivated to maintain their results

Laser liposuction is not for everyone. Patients are not candidates for laser liposuction if they are pregnant or breast feeding, have insulin dependent diabetes, have active or chronic liver disease or hepatitis, have coronary artery disease, unstable hypertension, bleeding disorders, or are on Coumadin/Heparin. Those patients with immune-related disorders such as HIV or are allergic to Lidocaine are also not candidates. Individuals with significant amounts of loose and hanging skin of the abdomen may be better suited for a tummy tuck.

Most of the time, multiple areas can be treated during the same session, but if we recommend more than one session, we will space the treatments at least one month apart.

If your treatment date is approaching, you should immediately stop taking any products that can thin the blood, including aspirin (or products containing aspirin), ibuprofen, oil, vitamin E, herbal supplements, and St. John’s Wort. If you smoke, you should stop immediately. Also, avoid any crash dieting before the procedure.

SlimLipo™ is a laser liposuction procedure that is designed to reduce the side effects and recovery time associated with traditional liposuction. The system uses wavelength technology to liquefy fat and tighten the skin in specific areas of the body. SlimLipo™ is different from other body contouring treatments in that it targets unwanted fat, melts it and removes it from the body via liposuction, while at the same time improving the texture of your skin in the targeted area. SlimLipo™ delivers two types of laser energy to remove fat and to tighten up your skin. The energy passes through the outermost layers of your skin without damaging it, and the first laser wavelength melts unwanted fat while a secondary wavelength works with your dermis to reduce significant signs of aging, such as sagging skin.

SlimLipo™ combines liposuction with laser treatment to tighten your skin and remove fatty tissue. SlimLipo™ is performed in an outpatient facility, general anesthesia is required. It can be used on just about every part of your body, including your abdomen, buttocks, thighs, upper arms, chin and neck.

SlimLipo™ is a unique minimally-invasive body contouring procedure that is designed to reduce the unwanted side effects and recovery times that are often associated with traditional liposuction. This system uses wavelength technology to liquefy fat and to tighten your skin in specific areas of your body. SlimLipo™ not only removes stubborn fatty deposits but also works with your skin’s natural processes to improve the tone and texture of your skin.

Your preparations for SlimLipo™are minimal compared with other more invasive procedures. During your consultation, Dr. Zamora will review any pre-surgical steps you may need to take to achieve the best and safest outcome possible, in addition to answering any questions that you may have.

SlimLipo™ is a minimally invasive, laser-assisted surgical treatment designed to permanently destroy specific areas of fat in the body. The use of a laser to break up the fat mean smaller incisions that do not require suturing which makes the recovery less painful and stressful. You will be put in a post surgical binder after surgery and can expect some swelling an brusing in the coming days.

While the duration of the procedure will necessarily varywith each patient, it typically takes from one to three hours to complete your SlimLipo™ procedure.

Immediately following your treatment, you may have some swelling and bruising. Dr. Zamora may recommend that you wear a compression garment until the swelling subsides and that you rest for a couple of days and avoid any strenuous activities for a few weeks.

Dr. Zamora is an expert at minimizing scars with SlimLipo™, and he will review the question of potential scars with you during your consultation.

The results from SlimLipo™ are immediately noticeable following your procedure and they become more visible as your swelling fully subsides in the weeks following your treatment.

During your SlimLipo™ consultation with Dr. Zamora, the procedure will be explained in detail, as Dr. Zamora will take all the time necessary to find out about your goals for the surgery, in addition to discussing any possible complications of a SlimLipo™ procedure.

The results of your SlimLipo™ treatment will be long lasting, which is why SlimLipo™ with Dr. Zamorais such an invaluable investment in your current and future happiness, self-confidence, and self-esteem. The results from SlimLipo™ will last a lifetime if you follow a healthy diet and exercise regularly. SlimLipo™ permanently removes the fat from the treatment area, but you can still potentially develop new fat as a result of aging or improper diet and exercise.

Because each patient has a different goal in mind, your SlimLipo™ costs will vary. During your consultation, all of your questions will be answered, and we will give you a better idea of what to expect for your fee. The fee charged for your care is based on a number of factors, including the difficulty of your operation and other factors related to your surgery, and as a result, the cost of SlimLipo™ varies with each patient. Fees are typically paid for in advance, and in addition to accepting cash, checks, and most major credit cards, we also offer convenient financing.

lansing plastic surgery

When it comes to plastic surgery, and all aspects of life, age is just a number. The choice to get plastic surgery, no matter your age, is your decision and not one determined by age. It is important to speak with a qualified plastic surgeon to determine your ability to receive surgery. These are a few things to think about as you consider whether to receive plastic surgery.

Health vs. Age

Your overall health matters more than your age since each person ages differently based on genetics and lifestyle habits. Before your surgery, you should talk to an experienced plastic surgeon about your health history and desired goals.

Surgical Complications

A common concern for patients aged 65 and older is the increased risk of surgical complications. Every surgery has a small complication rate, but you might be relieved to learn that the risk may not be significantly greater for patients 80 years and older than younger patients, according to one study.

Realistic Expectations

Although plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures can reduce the appearance of aging, they, unfortunately, cannot stop the aging process. As you age, your skin loses its elasticity so if you have a facelift at the age of 80, your skin will not be able to snap back the same way as if you had a facelift at 40-50 years old. However, you can still achieve beautiful results. Having realistic expectations leads to greater satisfaction after your surgery.

Non-Surgical Options

If surgery is not an option, you can still achieve improvement with a variety of non-surgical options such as injectables, skin treatments, and body sculpting technology like CoolSculpting. Most of these treatments take less than an hour and offer results with much less risk of complications than surgical procedures.

Schedule a Consultation

If you want to age gracefully by receiving plastic surgery, don’t let your age get in the way. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Lee H. Colony at Michigan Plastic Surgery in East Lansing, MI, to learn more about your options and whether you are a candidate. Give our office a call or fill out an online contact form and our staff will reach out to set up an appointment.

Tummy Tuck: Insider Tips at Ann Arbor Plastic Surgery

As you look at before and after photos of abdominoplasty patients, pay close attention to the belly button. A highly skilled surgeon will hide this incision inside of the belly button, rendering it practically invisible and creating a more natural appearance.

Could you benefit from a “Mommy Makeover”? Many of our tummy tuck patients are post-baby moms. While a tummy tuck restores the middle, a mommy makeover provides total body rejuvenation. Pair your abdominoplasty with complementary procedures like breast surgery and labiaplasty to restore your body after baby.

If you love low-rise jeans or wear bikinis, you’ll want a low incision for your abdominoplasty. Ask your surgeon about incision placement to ensure you’ll still be able to wear your favorite styles with confidence.

Excess fat tends to leave abdominal incisions with a full, raised appearance. Liposuction can smooth out these incisions for a smoother, more attractive result.

What are the Benefits of a Tummy Tuck Surgery in Michigan?

Look your best and feel confident with your abdominal appearance again. Our Michigan Abdominoplasty has many benefits including:

Tightening and Repair of the Abdominal Muscles

The paired abdominal rectus muscles are often stretched out or separated after pregnancy, weight changes, and aging, a condition called rectus diastasis. Cosmetic abdominal surgery realigns and sutures these muscles together to strengthen the core and restore a flat tummy.

Reshape the Belly Button

We’ll tighten up and reshape your belly button as needed.

Removes Excess Abdominal Skin

Skin stretches with weight gain and pregnancy but doesn’t always contract after. Abdominoplasty removes excess skin and fat from the tummy area.

Better Posture and Less Back Pain

Abdominoplasty strengthens the core, improving posture and potentially reducing back pain symptoms.

Tummy tuck surgery benefits both men and women and is one of our most popular procedures here at Ann Arbor Plastic Surgery. We tailor each patient’s operative plan based on his or her baseline appearance and unique surgical goals.

Standard Tummy Tuck vs. Power Tuck in Michigan

A tummy tuck is a surgical procedure that contours and reshapes the abdominal area. We begin with a low horizontal incision that extends across the pubic area and hips. The skin is lifted off the abdominal wall, and then re-draped and tightened, with the extra skin removed. The underlying rectus muscles are sutured together to strengthen the abdominal wall and make it flat. The belly button is then brought out in a new incision, using specialized techniques to tuck it in and make it look natural.

The Power Tuck – Abdominoplasty + Liposuction

A Power Tuck builds upon the results of a traditional tummy tuck by pairing it with flank liposuction. You’ll get all the benefits of a standard abdominoplasty plus:

Which option is right for you: a standard tummy tuck or a Power Tuck? We’ll explore both options with you at your consultation and help you decide. We also offer a mini tummy tuck for select patients that have limited skin laxity and muscle loosening located solely below the belly button.

Tummy Tuck Patient Reviews

Tummy Tuck or Liposuction: Which Procedure is best for me?

Choose liposuction alone if: You have extra fat with tight, elastic skin and limited to no overhanging skin.

Choose a tummy tuck alone if: You have minimal fat with loose skin and stretch marks. Some patients have a protuberant stomach due to muscle separation.

Choose a tummy tuck with flank liposuction if: You want a complete midsection transformation. This procedure, aka a “Power Tuck”, is best for patients with loose skin, extra fat, muscle separation, and stubborn love handles that extend to their back.

Power Tuck in Michigan

Our Power Tuck, an abdominoplasty and liposuction combination, creates the most dramatic transformation and is an excellent fit for most of our patients in the Ann Arbor and Detroit areas. Contact our Ann Arbor Plastic Surgery office by calling (734-913-5100) to schedule your consultation.

YOUR BEAUTY REVEALED

Let our before and after gallery show you the expertise of Michigan’s plastic surgery specialists Dr. Pramit Malhotra, Dr. Tiffany Ballard, and Dr. Pierre Lapaine. Place your trust in the skilled hands of our board-certified surgeons who understand that the difference is in the details.

Michigan Tummy Tuck FAQs

Is a tummy tuck right for you? Contact Ann Arbor Plastic Surgery to learn more about this abdominal transformation.

If you’ve tried diet and exercise, but still can’t achieve your ideal abdominal contour, you may be a good candidate for this procedure. We regularly perform this procedure on both men and women with excellent results. Ideally, patients are close to their target weight with excess skin and fat in the abdominal area. We’ll talk about your candidacy for the procedure in more depth at your consultation.

Our abdominoplasty patients typically require 10-14 days off from work. If you receive a mini tuck, recovery times may be shorter. Expect tenderness, bruising, and swelling. Patients will have activity restrictions for 4 weeks and slowly resume their daily activities as directed by their surgeon.

Scarring is inevitable after a tummy tuck, but skilled plastic surgeons like Dr. Malhotra and Dr. Ballard use techniques to minimize the scar as much as possible. Our incisions are low, just above the pubic bone, and are easily hidden, even when wearing low cut jeans or bikini bottoms. We use advanced suturing techniques to optimize the way the scars heal and often perform liposuction around the incision sites to ensure that excess fat doesn’t create a ridgeline along the incision.

A patient care coordinator at Ann Arbor Plastic Surgery will contact you regarding the next steps to prepare you for your consultation

On the day of your surgery, your surgeon will meet you in the preoperative area at the surgery center. There, he or she will do their markings and review the surgical plan.

Dr. Ballard typically places one drain, which comes out from an opening along the incision line. No extra scars are created for the drain. The drain is secured with a suture, and you will need to empty it several times a day. The drain usually stays in until your 1-week follow-up appointment, but sometimes it has to stay in longer to be safe. The drain is easily removed in clinic by cutting the suture and sliding it out.

Dr. Ballard nearly always repairs the rectus muscles in female patients, except if there are no signs of separation, which is rare. Male tummy tuck patients typically do not have any separation and the male physique does not involve creating a small waist.

can you get lipo on your stomach after a tummy tuck

A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is an invasive surgical procedure that’s intended to help create a tighter, flatter stomach. Tummy Tucks, which are major surgeries that can often have a lengthy recovery process, can take anywhere from one to five hours to complete and often require general anesthesia.

Unlike some body contouring treatments, Tummy Tucks are considered a highly invasive procedure, requiring an incision made from hipbone to hipbone. The invasive nature of the procedure results in a recovery time as long as 6 weeks, during which it is advised to avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting.

In many cases, surgeons can perform liposuction at the same time as the Tummy Tuck1, however this is not always the case and is considered on a patient-by-patient basis. Even if liposuction is done at the same time, often not enough of the fat is removed, which can lead to issues if any weight gain is experienced post tummy tuck.

Experiencing Weight Gain After a Tummy Tuck

Over time, if an abdominoplasty patient experiences weight gain, they will notice the increased fat in the upper part of the abdomen, usually from the naval up to just below the breasts, while the lower abdomen remains very tight and flat.

When situations like this arise, a minimally-invasive laser liposuction treatment can often yield the best results to remove the fat. Among the different types of laser lipo available, Smartlipo has been shown to help treat many patients who have encountered this very issue.
