Excess fat and skin that accumulate in the breasts during pregnancy often linger after childbirth, giving the breasts a sagging appearance. Breast lift surgery addresses this by lifting the breasts to a higher position and eliminating extra skin, giving the breasts a smoother, perkier aesthetic.
BREAST AUGMENTATION WITH BREAST IMPLANTS
New moms who would like to take breast enhancement one step further than a breast lift and add volume and new contour to the bustline may benefit from breast augmentation with implants. Our plastic surgeons can give you fuller, more sensual-looking breasts that are more proportionate to your body frame.
ABDOMINOPLASTY (TUMMY TUCK)
A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty surgery) addresses one of the most visible signs of physical change after pregnancy: the abdomen. This procedure tightens the abdominal muscles and lifts the overlying skin, eliminating excess skin and pulling the remaining skin taut for a smoother, more athletic-looking midsection.
LIPOSUCTION
One of the most popular plastic surgery procedures performed today, liposuction can get rid of stubborn, excess fat pockets in virtually any body area. This procedure is especially useful for areas of fat that have been unresponsive to even the most rigorous diet and exercise regimens.
COSMETIC INJECTABLE TREATMENT

Individual Costs of Mommy Makeover Procedures
Now that you know the basic cost breakdown of a mommy makeover, let’s dive into the individual costs of each procedure that may be included in the makeover.

Breast augmentation and lift
The cost of breast augmentation will depend on the type of implant chosen, whether the surgeon is board certified or not, and how long it takes to complete the procedure. The cost of breast augmentation typically ranges from $3,500 to $10,000. If a breast lift is also done during surgery, the cost can range from $6,500 to $15,000.
Liposuction
Liposuction costs depend on the number of areas being treated and how many liters of fat are removed. This procedure enhances the body’s contours by removing stubborn fat deposits that are difficult to get rid of through diet and exercise. The cost typically ranges from $2,500 to $5,000.
Tummy tuck
A tummy tuck tightens loose skin around the midsection caused by pregnancy or weight loss. It also removes excess fat and skin from the abdomen. The cost of a tummy tuck can range from $4,000 to $12,000 depending on the complexity of the procedure.
Breast Reduction
For women who suffer from back and shoulder pain due to large breasts, breast reduction is an option. It removes excess fat, skin and tissue from the breasts to reduce their size. The cost of a breast reduction typically ranges from $7,000 to $12,000.

Arm Lift
Arm lifts are typically done to remove excess skin and fat from the upper arms. This procedure can be performed alone or in combination with other procedures such as liposuction or a tummy tuck. It typically costs between $2,500 and $5,000.
Thigh Lift
Similar to an arm lift, a thigh lift is done to remove excess skin and fat from the thighs. It can also be done in combination with other procedures to achieve a more desirable body shape. A thigh lift typically costs between $4,000 and $8,000.
Body Contouring
Unlike liposuction, which removes fat, body contouring works to shape the body by tightening skin and muscles. This procedure can be done on any part of the body, including the face, arms, abdomen, hips, and thighs. It typically costs between $4,000 and $10,000, depending on the complexity of the procedure.
How Long Does a Mommy Makeover Take?
The amount of time it takes to complete a mommy makeover depends on the number and type of procedures involved. On average, it takes about four to six hours for surgery. Recovery time varies from person to person, but it typically takes a few weeks before you can return to your normal activities.
It is important that you find an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon to perform your mommy makeover. Your doctor will be able to help you determine the best combination of procedures for your desired outcome and advise you on how long it will take for a full recovery.

What’s included in a Mommy Makeover?
Usually, two or more procedures such as a breast lift (with or without implants), Brazilian Butt Lift and a tummy tuck make up the majority of Mommy Makeovers.
Most individual procedures can have subtle and not so subtle variations based on the materials and techniques employed. While there may seem to be an overwhelming array of choices, Dr. Raj has experience helping to home in on an optimal protocol for each patient.
The most common breast procedures performed in a mommy makeover are breast augmentation, breast mastopexy, and breast reduction.
If a woman’s breasts are small or have lost volume after pregnancy, a breast augmentation with saline or silicone implants can restore the shape and volume of the breasts. These implants are typically placed with a hidden incision underneath the breast and put in a pocket below the muscle.
If a woman’s breasts have developed excess skin and are droopy and if the nipple is in an abnormal position, a breast lift (mastopexy) can help reshape the breast and lift the nipple to a more appropriate position. This procedure also helps move the breast tissue upward so it is in a more youthful position.
Some women not only need a lift to remove excess skin and raise the nipple position, they may also desire a breast reduction to relieve symptoms such as neck pain, back pain, or rashes. The type of technique or incision pattern used depends on the physical exam measurements. Dr. Raj performs a thorough exam to suggest which breast surgery is most appropriate.
Breast Augmentation Mastopexy:
This procedure lifts the breast but also adds volume by placing a breast implant. Dr. Raj most often performs these two procedures at the same time. This is very commonly performed as a part of a mommy makeover.
The most common abdominal procedures performed in a mommy makeover are a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) and liposuction.
Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
Body contouring of the abdominal region are aimed at creating a smoother silhouette which typically requires removal of excess skin and tightening of the abdominal muscles. The type of tummy tuck or abdominoplasty depends on how each patient presents. The incision length can vary depending on how much skin needs to be removed. A muscle repair or tightening is performed by using suturing techniques.
Liposuction can be performed as part of a the surgery or in conjunction with abdominoplasty to better contour the flanks and back. The type or extent of liposuction employed can vary.
Why Choose Dr. Raja Mohan?
Your Consultation
During the initial consultation patients will meet with Dr. Raj and his staff, and a thorough medical history and physical will be conducted to ensure that the patient might safely undergo plastic surgery. Dr. Raj and the patient will then discuss the patient’s goals as well as reviewing any reference materials the patient has brought to gain a thorough understanding of what the patient is trying to achieve.
Depending on the procedures selected Dr. Raj may use imaging technology and take detailed measurements.
The findings of these measurements and examinations help Dr. Raj to narrow down options, such as implant sizing or incision position for the chosen procedures. By the end of the initial consultation the patient should have their questions about the procedures answered and Dr. Raj will be able to finalize the surgical plan.
Before the procedure, patients are given clear instructions on how to prepare for the procedure and what medications to avoid. Patients may need pre-operative testing to be completed and older patients will be required to obtain a mammogram. Patients who smoke tobacco will be required to stop using tobacco for a period before surgery can be scheduled.
For the safety of all patients, surgical appointments take place at an accredited surgery center or hospital, where patients will be greeted by staff to help them prepare for their surgery. Prior to the procedure Dr. Raj will perform a marking and discuss the details of surgery in the pre-operative holding area.
This provides a final opportunity for Dr. Raj to answer any questions before the patient is placed under anesthesia and the surgery commences in an operating room.
The procedure itself varies from patient to patient but every patient will have a similar experience surrounding the surgery itself. Surgery is performed in an operating room under general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure for patient comfort and safety.
Most procedures can be performed at the same time and will take between 3 and 6 hours.
Mommy Makeover Recovery
Patients are given personalized instructions on the recovery process for their Mommy Makeover scars, though there are some general recommendations that apply in most cases.
Protocols for breast surgery patients include wearing a supportive bra post-surgery, using soft gauze or pads over the incisions – especially in cases of breast lift or reduction. Abdominoplasty and Liposuction patients will be required to wear a compression garment, which is provided after surgery, for a total of 6 weeks while the healing process takes place.
All sutures are dissolvable and do not require removal.
Pain and swelling are normal within the first week. Dr. Raj utilizes long-acting anesthetics in his surgical technique to improve the ability to walk and return to most normal activity during the early healing stages.
Depending on the type and extent of procedures, patients may be required to abstain from strenuous activity and exercise for 4-6 weeks while wounds are healing. After one month, Dr. Raj teaches scar reduction techniques to further improve healing.

When it comes to the critically acclaimed mommy makeover, there are a variety of factors that contribute to the total cost and can vary widely per patient – but we’re here to give you as close to a cost estimate as we can, or at least what to look for when evaluating the cost of procedures.
Details regarding price, the length of the procedure and recovery time are courtesy of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). The price of each surgery will vary considerably by geographic region and does not include facility fees, anesthesia, and other surgical costs.
Mommy makeover overview
Let’s start with a simple overview of what a mommy makeover is, and what the procedure typically entails.
Even the healthiest moms who work hard to get their figures back find that the changes from pregnancy simply cannot be undone and exercised away. Excess skin is left behind as that occurs when the body is stretched and pulled, the swelling and subsequent shrinking of the breasts can leave them flat and sometimes sagging.
‘Mommy makeover’ is not a new term for a series of procedures referring to the combination of procedures that surgically restores the pre-baby shape as close as possible. On a basic level, a mommy makeover is some any breast surgery accompanied by any abdominal surgery. By performing these operations at the same time, you’re able to lessen recovery time and get back on your feet quickly.
These breast procedures may include one of the following:
A breast operation is paired with one of the following body surgeries to constitute a mommy makeover:
Breast augmentation
If your breasts have lost their volume or are just sagging more than you would like, breast augmentation may be the right choice. After a one- to two-hour surgery, you can walk away with either saline- or silicone-filled implants. It’s a permanent procedure, but sometimes breast implants do need to be replaced years down the road.
While it is essential to have a basic understanding of the other factors that influence the cost of a breast augmentation, one of the most significant is your choice of a breast implant. The price for breast augmentations varies depending on an individual patient’s goals and needs with surgery.
When considering cost as it relates to silicone versus saline breast implants, a key component to think about is the look and feel you are trying to achieve. Are you looking to go with a more natural look and feel, or would you prefer a substance that is a bit firmer but has a similar composition to the fluid that makes up most of the human body?
Breast lift
If the thought of implants makes you uncomfortable, a breast lift may be the way to go to mommy makeover recapture that coveted youthful look and shape. Perky doesn’t have to be a thing of the past – this procedure offers an alternative method to re-inflate sagging, droopy and poorly shaped breasts. Excess skin is removed, breast tissue is lifted, and nipples and areolae are moved or even reduced in size.
Like breast augmentation, side effects can include temporary discomfort, swelling, bruising and scars which will fade with time. It’s a procedure that can take an hour and a half to over three hours to complete, but the good news is that the results are long-lasting. You can’t stop gravity completely, but you can put it on pause for a little while. Most patients should be able to return to work in one to two weeks.
Breast augmentation with lift
Many women who have had children are excellent candidates for a combination breast augmentation with simultaneous full lift since the breasts tend to stretch and lose shape and volume after pregnancy. However, this procedure can be beneficial for any woman who wants to enhance the size of her breasts as well as reduce breast sag.
Breast Reduction
A breast reduction may be helpful for women who experience soreness in the back, neck, and shoulders, or who suffer from pain due to bra strap indentations. Women who want a smaller breast size and improved breast shape can also benefit from a breast reduction.
Tummy tuck
An abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, is a procedure that can take two to five hours from start to finish. Your surgeon will remove excess skin, may reposition your navel and will give your weak abdominal muscles new life by tightening the abdominal wall.
A scar is inevitable in a tummy tuck and recovery is slow – you can be back to work and mommy duty in one to three weeks, but it could be longer depending upon an individual’s physical condition. The results though can be a dramatically flatter stomach and narrower waist.
Liposuction
Body contouring is the friendly term for liposuction, but the procedure isn’t glamorous by any means. Having fat sucked out of your body isn’t any prettier than it sounds – but the results can be amazing and instantaneous. If you’ve ever seen a liposuction on television, it looks vicious, but there are newer methods that do reduce some of that violence by melting the fat first with ultrasound.
Keep in mind, liposuction is not an alternative to weight reduction. It can, however, be effective in removing stubborn fat that doesn’t react to diet and exercise. What this means is – don’t be surprised if your doctor recommends that you lose more weight before embarking on this procedure.
Depending on how much area you’re looking to have liposuctioned, the process can take anywhere from 45 minutes to two hours. Bruising, soreness and even some numbness may occur, but the final contour is usually evident at the three-month mark. You can be back to work in about one to two weeks but be prepared to wear a compression garment for up to six weeks to encourage your skin to contract and decrease the inevitable swelling.
Mommy makeover statistics
It’s important to note that the cost of a mommy makeover can vary dramatically from one patient to another and often does not include other surgery-related expenses. The major costs that factor into your total are the surgeon’s fee, facility fee, anesthesia fee, post-surgery fees and cost of implants.
So, to provide a somewhat straightforward answer, the overall cost for mommy makeover surgery can range from $9,000 to $20,000.
But again, the final cost will depend on a variety of factors and variables of the following:
Surgeon selection
All surgeons have their approach to performing mommy makeovers as they have different amenities at their disposal and varying levels of experience and accreditations.
It’s fair to assume that selecting a surgeon can singlehandedly be the most significant influence when it comes to the total cost of surgery. For example, at Austin-Weston, The Center for Cosmetic Surgery, our four board-certified plastic surgeons have accumulated a combined 75 years of experience, and with that have cultivated an excellent reputation in the Northern Virginia and DC Metro area.
We can only speak for ourselves when we say that each surgery is preceded by an extensive consultation involving computer analysis and imaging technology, as well as the master-eye of our surgeons to ensure that we deliver satisfying and life-changing results for our patients.
Geographic location
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) website lists the national average of plastic surgery physician fees. However, the fly in the ointment is that total prices vary widely among regions, with plastic surgery hotspots like Manhattan, Beverly Hills, Miami, Dallas and Los Angeles at the higher end of the spectrum.
The reason plastic surgery costs vary based on geographic locations, such as major urban centers, is usually due to higher overhead costs for surgeons in these areas. So, the first step in considering what you’ll pay is looking at fees where you live and how much the cost of living is in that area.
To find ballpark prices for procedures based on location by using the Healthcare Blue Book (it works the same way Kelley Blue Book lists the prices of cars).
Surgical facility
The surgical facility is a major factor to consider not only because of overall cost but because it may put a price tag on the importance of your safety and satisfaction.
The importance of having your procedure performed in an accredited surgical facility by qualified staff is critical in the decision-making process. Do not try to cut costs by sacrificing safety and having your procedure performed at a non-accredited practice or by a surgeon not certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
The Austin-Weston Center is a beautiful, free-standing surgery facility located in Reston, Virginia, fully-equipped with five surgical suites. Our state of the art facility features operating rooms fully accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), an association that accredits office-based surgical facilities.
Our surgeons are board certified in plastic surgery and fully insured, our Certified Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) are nationally certified by the Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists, and all personnel is licensed and certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
Surgery-related expenses
You should ask the surgeon directly if these are all the costs involved in your estimate. Since there is no set dollar amount for such expenditures, it is important to explore multiple options by meeting with several surgeons and getting estimates for not only their surgeon fees but also the additional surgical-related expenses.
When determining the cost for a mommy makeover, make sure to account for the following surgery-related expenses:
Anesthesia fees
The cost of anesthesia for mommy makeover surgery can also vary. With a board-certified anesthesiologist, the price will be higher. With a CRNA (nurse anesthetist) the price will be lower. Another factor that can decrease cost is when a doctor uses a non-certified anesthetist nurse, or a medical assistant to push the anesthetic drugs (and yes, unfortunately, this does happen). Anesthesia fees are by the hour, and if the surgeon is taking his time to make the results as meticulous as possible, the anesthesia fee will be higher. Which can also vary depending on the technique used for the surgery, which can sometimes take longer or shorter to perform.
mommy makeover cost houston
Each mommy makeover can be individualized to fit your needs. A makeover consists of a combination of procedures that address common post-pregnancy concerns. Usually ranging between two and four procedures in total, a mommy makeover can help you feel like yourself once again. A mommy makeover typically involves the following procedures:
Liposuction
Many women choose to undergo liposuction during their mommy makeover. This safe and time-proven procedure can reduce fat virtually anywhere on the face and body, with common treatment locations being the thighs, buttocks, arms and abdomen.
Liposuction reduces stubborn fat that can accumulate in the flanks (love handles), stomach, thighs, or other areas. A small incision is made near the treatment area and a tube, or cannula, is inserted and used to dislodge fat.
Breast surgery
Breastfeeding and pregnancy can take an enormous toll on your breasts. As such, it’s no surprise that breast lifts, augmentations and reductions are very common mommy makeover procedures among our Houston patients.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding can leave your breasts looking deflated or saggy. During a breast lift, excess tissue is trimmed away to improve the shape and positioning of your breasts. If you desire larger breasts, a lift can be paired with a breast augmentation in order to add volume. In some cases, new moms desire a breast reduction so their breasts remain in proportion with their figure.
Tummy tuck
After pregnancy, the abdominal area may appear loose and flabby. When this occurs, a tummy tuck can be performed under general anesthesia to trim away excess skin, improve the appearance of stretch marks, and remove unwanted flab.
The stomach is often one of the most affected areas on a woman’s body after pregnancy. Housing your little one for so long can stretch out the skin and weaken the muscles. During a tummy tuck, an incision is placed horizontally across the lower abdomen. The abdominal muscles are pulled tight and secured, and then excess fat and tissue are removed.
Lower body lift
If your lower body appears heavier and droopier after pregnancy, a comprehensive lift can create a brand new contour by tightening lax muscles and trimming away excess skin throughout the abdomen, thighs and buttocks. This procedure is done under general anesthesia and requires an extensive incision around the waist, hips and thighs.
A lower body lift can be used to address more than just your stomach. Loose skin and weakened muscles can leave your entire midsection looking droopy. An extensive incision is made around your lower waist and excess skin and fat are removed from your abdomen, waist, thighs, groin, and buttocks. It is the most involved procedure of a mommy makeover, but can provide dramatic results.
Recovery After a Mommy Makeover
Recovery will vary among patients. Each mommy makeover is customized to address your specific concerns, and your recovery will be determined by the number of procedures you have, the amount of tissue, skin, and fat that are removed, and your body’s own healing process. You will likely need some time off work and may need help around the house for the first few days. Dr. Lyos will monitor your healing at every step of the way.
FAQ
When is the ideal time to schedule a mommy makeover?
Your mommy makeover timeline will depend on a variety of factors – from your personal preferences to your future pregnancy and weight loss plans. If there is a chance that you will lose weight or experience another pregnancy, or if your body is still recovering from childbirth, Dr. Lyos may recommend delaying the procedure. In addition, some of our mommy makeover patients choose to have their procedures done in stages to avoid a lengthy recovery period and difficult surgical experience.
Will there be a lot of scars?
Yes, there will always be scars; no, there should not be any obvious and very unsightly scarring. Any time that an incision is made in any part of the body, a scar will result. Excellent surgical skill comes into play in ensuring that the incisions made and the suturing techniques used, result in the thinnest and least obvious scars possible. With a good surgeon, most patients will find that their scars are virtually imperceptible. Scars are typically elevated and of a different color than surrounding skin for up to 6 months, after which they flatten out and fade. A patient’s own careful postoperative care is very important to good scar healing and staying out of the sun, remaining hydrated, and using topical creams will aid healing.
