Depending on the size of your treatment area, you may have some swelling and bruising which is normal. Swelling usually appears in the first two to three days following treatment and should start to subside after that. The treatment area may feel warm, tight, bruised and tender during this time. You will be given instructions regarding the activity level after CoolSculpting® treatment. After each treatment session, always follow your practitioner’s instructions as they apply to your unique situation.

Things To Do Or Not After Coolsculpting

CoolSculpting is a revolutionary non-invasive procedure that uses a cryolipolysis cooling technology to freeze fat. The treatment works by freezing the fat cells in the targeted area, which causes them to die and be naturally removed from your body over time. CoolSculpting has several advantages over other procedures that require surgery or injections. It doesn’t require general anesthesia or recovery time and there are no incisions or needles used during treatment.

CoolSculpting is safe for patients with diabetes and other health conditions, but there are some precautions you should take after your procedure is complete. Here’s what you need to know about how to prepare for CoolSculpting:

Do not apply any heat to the area for 48 hours.

Once the CoolSculpting® procedure is complete, you should avoid applying heat to the treatment area. This means no heating pads, hot water bottles, hot showers or saunas/steam rooms. You also shouldn’t use a tanning bed for 48 hours after your procedure.

In addition to these post-procedure restrictions, it’s important to keep in mind that CoolSculpting® does not burn fat cells but simply freezes them until they die off naturally and are removed by your body through normal digestion processes. It’s important that you don’t try to “exercise” any dead fat cells out yourself—and definitely don’t try doing sit-ups or other weightlifting exercises during this time frame!

Do not massage the area.

  • Do not massage the area. Massaging the treated areas can cause bruising, swelling and pain.
  • Do not apply heat or ice to the treated area for 48 hours following treatment. Heat can increase blood flow and may increase procedure results; however, it also increases risk of bruising and scarring. Ice should be limited to 10 minutes per day after 48 hours post-treatment due to potential tissue damage if used too frequently or at too high a temperature (ice pack).

Do not expose treatment areas to extreme cold or heat (hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, etc.) for at least 2 weeks after treatment.

After your CoolSculpting procedure, you should not expose treatment areas to extreme cold or heat (hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, etc.) for at least 2 weeks. This means that you shouldn’t use a hot tub or sauna for at least two weeks after treatment. You also should not use a hot shower or sit in the sun without sunscreen on your treated area(s) for at least two weeks after treatment.

Do not participate in any vigorous exercise for 24 hours after treatment. Light exercise and activities of daily living are acceptable.

You should not participate in vigorous exercise or any strenuous activity for 24 hours after treatment.

Coolsculpting is not a weight loss treatment and its effectiveness is determined by your lifestyle. If you have been eating well and exercising regularly throughout the time of your treatment, you could potentially see full results by six months after your first session. If you have not been eating right or exercising consistently, it can take longer to see results

Avoid alcohol for 24-48 hours after CoolSculpting, especially if taking pain medications. Alcohol can further increase your risk of bruising and other side effects.

Alcohol and CoolSculpting can be a dangerous combination. Alcohol not only increases your risk of bruising but also your risk of side effects from the treatment. If you’re considering getting CoolSculpting to reduce your body fat, it’s important to know how long you should avoid alcohol after treatment and what to do if you do drink before or during treatment.

Here’s what happens when you get CoolSculpting: During the procedure, a handheld device is placed on your skin for about 30 minutes at a time as the machine cools an area of fat cells in order to cause them death (yes, death). The goal is that when these dead fat cells are metabolized by the body over time, they will leave behind more space in your skin allowing less padding around areas like love handles or thighs — making them easier to grab onto while working out!

It takes several weeks at least before any visible changes occur because there needs time for those dead cells break down into fatty acids which then travels through lymphatic channels until they reach our liver where they are processed into energy molecules called ketones which can later be used by our muscles as fuel during exercise sessions! This process takes between 4-6 weeks after having surgery done but results only lasts up until 6 months (maximum).

Avoid taking Ibuprofen or aspirin for the first 2-3 days following treatments as these medications can increase the likelihood of bruising or bleeding. Tylenol is a good alternative to reduce post-treatment discomfort and swelling.

bowel movements after coolsculpting

1) Immediately After the CoolSculpting Procedure

After the procedure, you may experience the following temporary symptoms:

These symptoms are normal and will self-resolve. They are caused by prolonged suction and exposure to cold. CoolSculpting utilizes cold therapy, also known as cryolipolysis to freeze fat cells.

These symptoms last from a few minutes to a few hours. They do not require any special treatment.

2) 3-5 Days after the CoolSculpting Procedure

CoolSculpting side effects can start 3-5 days after the procedure and can last up to a week. Symptoms are generally mild and don’t require medication or time off work or activities.

Numbness and pain after CoolSculpting are the most common side effects. These are sometimes referred to as ‘fat freezing side effects’ and are generally mild and short lived.     10-15% of patients experience moderate to severe pain after CoolSculpting.   See our Pain after CoolSculpting page for more details on severe pain after CoolSculpting and how to reduce pain.

3) 2-6 Weeks after the CoolSculpting Procedure

Some CoolSculpting side effects can last for 2- 6 weeks after the procedure. These side effects are normal and related to the cold temperatures associated with freezing fat cells:

These symptoms are temporary and will subside. It’s important to be patient and let your body heal. Consult your medical professional if these symptoms persist or worsen over time. Individual results may vary.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT COOLSCULPTING SIDE EFFECTS

1. Will I get Frostbite?

In more than 2 million CoolSculpting treatments worldwide, only 1 case of frostbite has been reported. This was most likely down to practitioner error and the frostbite resolved itself without damage or pigmentation to the skin.

CoolSculpting enables precise and controlled cooling, therefore frostbite and skin damage are extremely unlikely. CoolSculpting applicators contain more than three thousand sensors per side, controlling the temperature to freeze and kill fat cells, while leaving surrounding tissue unaffected.

In contrast, unauthorized and cheap ‘At Home Kits’ and ‘DIY Kits’ can cause frostbite. These kits don’t regulate temperature, instead they use ice to deliver cooling – which can cause injury to the skin. (Individual results may vary)

2. Will I get Dimples or Bumps?

Unlike surgical procedures such as liposuction, where too much fat can be removed at one time, CoolSculpting provides a steady and even reduction in the body’s fat layer, hence bumps and dimples should not occur.

However, CoolSculpting is a technique driven treatment. You should chose provider whose results you can trust. If the CoolSculpting applicator is applied incorrectly, in rare cases a divot could occur. (Individual results may vary)

3. Will my Cholesterol Increase?

CoolSculpting eliminates fat from the body through the lymphatic system. Extensive studies have been conducted to analyze blood samples post-treatment, these have not shown changes in cholesterol levels or blood lipid levels.

It is believed the breakdown of fat cells after CoolSculpting is too slow and gradual to affect blood chemistries or liver function. (Individual results may vary)

4. Will I have Skin Laxity?

CoolSculpting does not make skin more lax. This is because CoolSculpting results develop slowly, enabling the skin to contract over time.

Although CoolSculpting isn’t a skin tightening procedure, we have seen good results of skin tightening for patients at our practice with mild skin laxity. This skin laxity has generally either been from previous pregnancies or weight loss.

Patients with more severe skin laxity, such as deflated skin, or ‘tissue paper’ skin are not candidates for CoolSculpting – this type of skin laxity does not contract with CoolSculpting. (Individual results may vary)

5. Will My Results Be Uneven?

CoolSculpting applicators remove heat from the skin at a constant rate, so results should not be uneven. Again, CoolSculpting is a technique driven treatment – you should chose provider whose results you can trust.

In the months following a CoolSculpting treatment, unevenness is normal. A common CoolSculpting side effects is swelling. When the body swells, each side of the body can heal at a different rate. Patients should give their body time to fully heal until final results are evident. (Individual results may vary)

6. Will I get Nerve Damage?

Studies have shown that CoolSculpting is not known to cause long-term nerve damage. Numbness after CoolSculpting is a normal side effect. Numbness can last up to 6 weeks and isn’t associated with nerve damage. (Individual results may vary)

7. Are there Rare Side Effects?

The official CoolSculpting website states that rare side effects can occur. Patients should also not have the CoolSculpting procedure if they suffer from cryoglobulinemia or paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria. (Individual results may vary)

Convenience is king when it comes to cosmetic treatments these days, especially for men and women who have a strict daily schedule. Read on to learn more about what to expect after CoolSculpting, and find out how soon you can resume your regular fitness regimen.

How does CoolSculpting work?

CoolSculpting is a nonsurgical and noninvasive body contouring treatment that reduces stubborn fat using cryolipolysis technology. During a CoolSculpting treatment, unwanted fat cells are cooled to a precise temperature, causing them to perish. Over the course of several weeks or months, the destroyed fat cells are expelled by the body via natural processes, leaving patients with a smoother, slimmer, sexier new physique.

How long does CoolSculpting take to work?

In many cases, patients notice their new figure taking shape after a single CoolSculpting session. On average, however, a series of 1 – 3 CoolSculpting appointments are needed to achieve the patient’s desired outcome, which is typically visible about 6 – 8 weeks after their final treatment.

Does CoolSculpting have any recovery time?

Almost immediately after CoolSculpting treatment, patients near Killeen, Round Rock, or Cedar Park, TX may experience the following:

In most cases, these CoolSculpting side effects are mild and last just a few hours or days. In fact, the majority of men and women are able to return to work, school, home, or another activity right after their CoolSculpting appointment.

Can I exercise after CoolSculpting?

Working out after CoolSculpting is generally considered safe and appropriate, though patients are advised to follow their body’s cues. If, for example, a patient feels pronounced soreness or tenderness after CoolSculpting, it may be best to defer exercise and strenuous physical activity for 24 – 48 hours.

Exercise can help your CoolSculpting results

Not only is exercise possible after CoolSculpting, but it is also an important part of your recovery process. In some cases, increased physical activity may actually help speed up a patient’s healing time and relieve unwanted symptoms. In addition, regular exercise and a healthy diet can help to preserve the results of CoolSculpting over a longer period of time. While the fat cells removed during CoolSculpting will not regenerate, patients can still reverse their cosmetic results with weight gain, which will enlarge the body’s remaining fat cells. For this reason, a dedicated exercise routine is critical for achieving long-lasting results. With a healthy lifestyle and regular exercise, CoolSculpting patients can enjoy their slender silhouette for years to come.

can i eat after coolsculpting

Chances are you have seen advertising for CoolSculpting. The innovative fat-freezing procedure’s popularity has skyrocketed worldwide in recent years. The fact that it is a non-invasive alternative to surgical fat removal has only added to its appeal.

But does that mean that there’s no recovery time involved with CoolSculpting? Yes and no. While you can resume many activities including exercise following the procedure, you still need to take care to ensure the treated area bounces back. Here are ten facts you should know about CoolSculpting recovery.

1. Understand How CoolSculpting Works

Before you schedule a consultation you should know exactly how CoolSculpting works and what to expect during a treatment session. CoolSculpting was developed after two Boston doctors discovered that children who sucked on popsicles regularly were developing more contoured cheeks as a result. The cold from the icy treats was “melting” away fat cells in their face.

CoolSculpting uses a vacuum-like apparatus to suck in fatty areas of flesh on the body and target the fat cells without harming the skin. CoolSculpting has been approved for use on the arms, legs, stomach, back, underneath the chin and other places where there’s fat that won’t seem to disappear with dieting and exercise. The procedure cannot be used to treat obesity, but is designed to help people with a healthy regimen get rid of that little bit of stubborn fat.

2. Know What to Expect During A CoolSculpting Treatment

Patients receiving a CoolSculpting treatment can expect to feel some discomfort from the cold. After several minutes numbness should begin to set in. They may feel some tugging, pulling, and sucking sensations from the application.

A treatment usually lasts about 30 to 45 minutes and depending upon the patient and their fat loss goals, follow-up treatments may be needed. Your plastic surgery office or clinic will brief you on what to expect and exactly how long your procedure will take.

3. Know the Side Effects to Expect Following A CoolSculpting Treatment

Some patients may experience minor recovery symptoms following a CoolSculpting treatment. These may include temporary redness, soreness, itching, bruising, and numbness at the area that was treated. These usually subside on their own and disappear a few days after treatment.

4. Wear Loose Clothing During and After The Treatment

You probably won’t be able to squeeze into leggings or other tight-fitting clothing items after CoolSculpting, nor should you. Give the treated area a chance to breathe and fully recover by wearing loose, comfortable clothes. Wearing tight clothing over the area may make any soreness feel worse.

5. Bring a Small Healthy Snack With You

Some patients may get nauseous during or following a CoolSculpting treatment. Eating a small snack can help prevent a woozy stomach and keep your blood sugar level healthy. Bring a healthy snack such as nuts, fruit, cheese and crackers, or chickpeas to help you feel sated and comfortable.

Drinking adequate amounts of water will help your body eliminate fat cells faster. Stay hydrated before and after the procedure to help your body recovery faster and give the treatment a chance to do its job.

7. Don’t Expect Dramatic Changes Right Away

You won’t see a change in your body the day after having CoolSculpting done. It takes time for the fat cells to break down and leave your body. Many patients first notice a difference about three weeks after a session and more results two to four months later.

However, your body will continue to flush fat for up to six months after a CoolSculpting treatment. You may want to take measurements of your body before the procedure and at intervals following it to track the progress.

8. Take It Easy After Treatment

If an area of your body is sore following treatment, it’s best not to push yourself by going to the gym and exercising that body part or wearing clothing that can rub against it and irritate it more. Give the treated area time to calm down and for redness and any other side effects to subside.

Be gentle when showering or bathing the area, using water that is not cold nor hot and by gently patting it dry. There are some rare side effects following CoolSculpting that include an enlargement of the treated area. If anything doesn’t seem right, call your doctor.

9. Take an OTC Painkiller

If you’re feeling a lot of discomfort after a CoolSculpting treatment, you can ease soreness by taking an OTC painkiller such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen. Just take care not to exceed the recommended daily dosage. If you have a chronic medical condition, check with your doctor first to make sure it’s safe to use.

You can also apply a warm compress to the treated area and practice deep breathing exercises and yoga to help ease any pain.

10. Understand That CoolSculpting Success Depends On You

CoolScupting is a permanent solution to fat removal, but only if you maintain your healthy lifestyle. So during the recovery process, know that success depends upon you. You’ll need to stick to a balanced diet and regular exercise to keep the fat cells from returning.
